Job Description

Senior Systems Engineer – Collaboration & Communication Platform

Canva

• Design and deliver collaboration and communication solutions that span multiple platforms (Jira, Slack, Confluence, Google Workspace, Zoom) with a focus on user experience and business outcomes. • Build and maintain integrations using automation platforms (Workato, n8n) to connect systems and streamline workflows across Canva. • Partner with teams across Canva to understand their collaboration and communication challenges, translating needs into scalable, well-designed solutions. • Lead improvements to system architecture by reducing technical debt, improving maintainability, and implementing changes that benefit the broader Canva ecosystem. • Own operational health of services—investigating and resolving complex issues, pioneering process improvements, and ensuring platform reliability and performance. • Codify and share technical knowledge through clear documentation, engaging presentations, and active contribution to the systems engineering community at Canva. • Contribute to team growth by providing feedback, mentoring colleagues, and helping interview and assess candidates for the team and broader group.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in solution design and systems architecture with demonstrable experience that covers the entire lifecycle of platform management
  • Deep expertise in collaboration and communication platforms(Atlassian, Slack, Google Workspace, or similar), with demonstrated ability to configure, integrate, and optimise these systems at scale.
  • Experience with integration and automation platforms (Workato, n8n, or similar) and the ability to design workflows that connect multiple systems effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of delivering on complex technical projects that have meaningful business impact.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, advocate for engineering needs, and build productive relationships across teams.
  • A solution-oriented mindset that focuses on end-to-end user experiences rather than individual tool configurations, with the ability to balance immediate needs against longer-term strategic goals.
  • Experience working with APIs, scripting, and basic development concepts sufficient to build custom solutions and evaluate technical trade-offs.
  • A growth mindset and commitment to continuous learning, with the initiative to develop new skills and share knowledge with others.
