Field Service Engineer – Generator Controls, Lead
GE Vernova
• Execute retrofit, maintenance, and commissioning activities for generator control systems, including installation, power‑up, loop checks, and commissioning • Work with excitation and static starter control platforms such as EX2100e, EX2100/EX2000, and LS2100e • Lead on‑site activities, including supervision of electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation subcontractors • Plan and coordinate site activities including scheduling, pre‑mobilisation, commissioning, and project handover • Troubleshoot control, instrumentation, and networking issues during warranty and post‑warranty periods • Respond to customer call‑outs and provide on‑site technical support • Collaborate with project managers, customers, and suppliers to ensure quality, safety, financial performance, and customer satisfaction • Complete service documentation including time sheets, reports, and invoicing packages • Identify change‑order opportunities and support technical input into proposals and solutions
Job Requirements
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Control Systems, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in field engineering within power generation, industrial automation, DCS, PLC, or similar environments
- Experience in either EX2100e, EX2100 or LS2100e is essential to the success of this role
- Hands‑on experience with generator excitation and/or static starter control systems
- Strong troubleshooting capability across control systems, instrumentation, and networking
- Experience working in customer sites and field service environments
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with remote and cross‑functional teams
- Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused mindset
- Proficiency with standard computer tools and ability to learn control system software (e.g. HMI and configuration tools)

• Ensure customers receive high level of support through real time communication and system knowledge • Install new systems within the US region • Respond to customer requests for tool support and regular maintenance • Provide technical assistance in real time in both onsite and remote situations • Read electrical and hardware schematics • Communicate daily status both internally and externally • Manage time in high pressure situations • Show flexibility and adaptability
• Monitor product performance in the field – search, identify, and pre-qualify evaluation users. • Initiate, track, report, and follow up on field evaluations of products. • Investigate and initiate new product requests based on field evaluation and market awareness. • Create and issue return tire reports. • Provide technical expertise to fleets, dealers, and sales force – respond to technical requests and training requests. • Participate in surveys for information on current product performance and usage in the field.
• Travel to customer sites (approx. 80% travel) to provide hands-on service for various types of equipment • Diagnose, repair, and perform routine maintenance on hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems • Interface with PLC systems to upload/download programs • Collaborate with dealer technicians for troubleshooting assistance • Maintain detailed documentation through work order systems • Participate in OEM testing and equipment upgrades • Provide end-user product orientation and safe operating procedures at customer sites • Mentor or train junior or less-experienced technicians in-field when required
