WAN Architect – Backbone

• Architecture development & optimization • Planning, design and continuous optimization of the technical architecture of our IP backbone • Integration of new IP backbone functions into a complex systems landscape • Technology analysis & innovation • Evaluation and assessment of new technologies such as NFV, SDN and orchestrator solutions • Ensuring a high-performance, automated and future-proof IP backbone • Technical coordination and support of projects at national and international levels • Balancing innovation, time-to-market and sustainability • Close alignment of architecture designs and derivation of solution concepts within an interdisciplinary team • Technical negotiations with vendors and service providers, taking economic aspects into account
Job Requirements
- Degree in network engineering, computer science or a comparable qualification
- Several years of professional experience in an ISP environment with an MPLS-based core
- Solid knowledge of backbone routing design and protocols such as IS-IS, BGP, MP-BGP, Segment Routing, LDP, TCP/IP
- Experience in peering design, route-reflector architectures and the use of traffic-engineering tools
- Knowledge of data modeling (e.g., YANG) and flow modeling (e.g., TWIG, Mistral)
- Experience with Python, JSON or comparable technologies
- Familiarity with scalable architectures such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift
- Know-how in CI/CD processes (e.g., Git, Jenkins)
- Fluent German and English, both written and spoken
