Job Description
Engineering Manager - Retail Acquisition
Bitso
Role Description We're building Bitso's Acquisition engineering function from the ground up, and we need an Engineering Manager who can lead with both code and context. In this hands-on role, you'll split your time between writing production code and building a high-performing team — shaping how Bitso acquires and activates the next generation of crypto users across Latin America. This isn't a traditional management role where you sit on the sidelines. You'll be deep in the codebase alongside your team while driving the people, processes, and product decisions that make the Acquisition squad successful. If you're energized by the idea of shipping code in the morning and running a career development conversation in the afternoon, this role is for you. Qualifications - 5+ years of software engineering experience, having reached a Senior Engineer level or above before transitioning into management - 2+ years of experience managing engineers, including running performance reviews, career development, and hiring processes - Strong backend engineering experience, with proficiency in Java and Spring Framework - Front End development experience. Experience with React and modern web development strongly preferred, though equivalent FE expertise is welcome - Proven ability to work autonomously and balance technical execution with management responsibilities - Experience collaborating directly with Product, Marketing, Design, and Data stakeholders to translate business goals into technical solutions - Comfortable defining and improving engineering processes, delivery practices, and team workflows - Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken), with the ability to document decisions, present trade-offs, and align cross-functional partners - Experience building and shipping user-facing products in fast-paced environments Requirements - Experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile development - Familiarity with growth/marketing tools such as CleverTap, Adjust, or Amplitude - Knowledge of experimentation frameworks and A/B testing methodologies - Experience with SEO technical requirements and web performance optimization - Background in crypto, fintech, or high-growth technology companies - Deeper frontend experience with React, Next.js, and Typescript beyond the basics - Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog, Splunk) What You Will Do - Lead and grow the Acquisition engineering squad, owning both technical delivery and team health - Write production code alongside your team, expect to contribute meaningfully to the codebase across backend and web - Architect and drive the technical direction for growth infrastructure: acquisition funnels, referral systems, SEO, and landing page platforms - Run people management processes: 1:1s, performance reviews, career development plans, and hiring as the team scales - Collaborate with Product Managers, Marketing, Design, and Data Science to define priorities and deliver measurable business outcomes - Establish and refine engineering processes, delivery cadences, and quality standards for the squad - Balance feature delivery with technical health, making trade-off decisions transparent to stakeholders - Champion a culture of experimentation, measurement, and iteration — ensuring Acquisition initiatives are data-informed Benefits - Me Time program, including unlimited paid time off - Remote-first work environment - Employee Stock Option program - Zero trading fees through our Bitso Alpha app - Extended Family Leave Policy: all birthing parents, non-birthing parents and adopting parents are eligible for a 4-months leave - Premium health, dental and life insurances in Mexico, Gibraltar, Colombia, USA, Brazil and Argentina Company Description With over 9 million users, Bitso is the leading cryptocurrency platform in Latin America.
