Distribution Engineer

We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is always maintained. If you join us in this role, you'll gain expertise in a variety of areas, including NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. Travel: This position has remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located within a commutable distance of our New Jersey support areas in order to be considered, so we can provide support to our local utility customer as needed. The selected candidate(s) will be expected to be available for in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory in New Jersey on an as-needed basis. As a Distribution Engineer / Designer, you can expect to: - Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers - Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes. - Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker. - Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met. - Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design - Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements): - 2+ years of prior relevant experience is required. - Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred); additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree - Experience with the execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design approved, including Customer interaction and Process documentation - Experience with utility reliability projects - Ability to demonstrate proficiency with the NESC - Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates) - Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages - Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license, as some local or regional travel is expected Nice to Haves: - Previous QAQC experience - Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC - Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc - Experience with the Work Management System CREWS - Relevant management or leadership experience Professional Attributes that will help you succeed in this role: - Strong communication skills, written and interpersonal communications skills and supporting of customer advocacy - Collaborative and inclusive of individuals of diverse backgrounds and geographic locations - Positive attitude - Ability to work with limited supervision - Professional dress and demeanor - Attention to detail & Highly organized - Excellent time management At Leidos, we pride ourselves on being a trusted and technology-focused solutions provider.
