A day in the life: At Hertz, our senior data scientists are responsible developing and defining best practices for analytical methods to generate informative research, reports, visualizations, and dashboards using internal and external data to provide actionable and strategic insights. You will work closely with data engineers, analysts, software developers and product managers within the business to deliver new and exciting products and services. Your main objective is to leverage advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to deeply understand our product performance and generate insights to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness by enabling proactive data-driven decisions across the organization. This includes fostering collaboration, building partnerships, co-developing products, sharing knowledge, providing insights and valuable predictive information to business teams and leaders to highlight potential risks and opportunities that initiate the drive for change. The role of the incumbent is to work on impactful strategic initiatives and use state of the art technologies to solve complex problems to enable and optimize our digital, connected fleet, pricing, and ridesharing products. The starting salary for this role is $105K; commensurate with experience. What You’ll Do: - Dissect and solve complex business problems by applying analytical and machine learning techniques to uncover patterns and correlations in large, complex datasets - Own end-to-end ML model development: problem framing, data architecture scoping, feature engineering, model design, experimentation, evaluation, deployment, monitoring - Analyze and define success and performance metrics for current and new business initiatives, with a specific focus on A/B tests - Design and maintain robust ETL processes to ensure data integrity and accessibility - Build and maintain descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models to measure the performance of the new products and services - Define and implement best practices to generate accurate analytics, reports, visualizations, and dashboards to explain results simply and succinctly to technical, non-technical, and senior management - Integrate and curate data from a wide range of internal and external sources to develop detailed reports and datasets for predictive modelling - Liaise with stakeholders within the company to understand their needs and concerns and develop concise analytics to provide actionable insights to influence strategy and performance - Guide business leaders with confidence in your analytics and reporting to ensure smooth execution - Oversee the upkeep and optimization of current ETL pipelines and dashboards What We’re Looking For: - Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in a data science or data analytics role - Minimum 2 years of intensive experience with cloud-based Big Data, ML and Analytics technologies, preferably Databricks - Experience with event-driven architectures and implementing analytics on streaming data using technologies such as BigQuery is a plus - Experience with Data Visualization tools such as Tableau - Strong capabilities in SQL and experience working with structured and semi-structured data. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills - Strong capabilities in scripting languages such as Python - Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills with a proven record for identifying and diagnosing problems, and solving complex problems with simple, logical solutions - Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and interaction skills, including ability to effectively communicate technical and non-technical information and concepts to multiple organization levels. - A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, or other quantitative disciplines such as statistics, mathematics, physics or engineering. • Design and execute complex SQL queries to monitor the integrity of the entire USSGL chart of accounts, identifying abnormal balances or non-standard posting logic across the General Ledger • Build automated "Tie-Point" analyses within ADVANA to ensure cumulative results of operations and net position are mathematically consistent across all financial statements • Develop SQL-based models to automate the reconciliation between the Core Financial System and the SF-133 (Report on Budget Execution and Budgetary Resources) and the Schedule of Spending • Create data pipelines that aggregate disparate data sources into a "Single Source of Truth" for the Consolidated Balance Sheet and Statement of Net Cost • Implement machine learning or statistical trend analysis to perform "Fluctuation Analysis" (Flux) across fiscal years, highlighting significant variances for leadership review • Automate the identification of "Unmatched Transactions" and "Trading Partner" Eliminations to streamline the intra-governmental reconciliation process • Oversee the data flow from all subsidiary ledgers (Payables, Receivables, Property, and Payroll) into the General Ledger, ensuring that automated interfaces maintain USSGL compliance at the transaction level • Perform deep-dive data mining to resolve systemic issues causing "Suspense" account bloating or "Journal Voucher" (JV) over-reliance • Transform raw ADVANA data into interactive visual narratives for senior leadership, translating complex accounting adjustments into clear operational impacts • Serve as the technical lead for data-driven "Audit Readiness" reviews, ensuring that all financial data is supported by a clean, digital audit trail

• Design and maintain data pipelines using Airflow (DAGs) to support fraud detection workflows • Process and analyze large volumes of transactional data using Spark • Develop, evaluate, and monitor fraud risk scoring models • Perform exploratory analyses to identify fraud patterns, anomalies, and emerging risk behaviors • Create and maintain dashboards to monitor fraud KPIs (approval rate, chargeback rate, fraud rate, false positive rate, among others) • Collaborate with Product, Payments, and Risk teams to evolve fraud prevention strategies • Contribute to MLOps and ML Engineering practices for deployment and monitoring of fraud models

• Design and own analytical frameworks that guide the evolution of our auction and bidding systems, including CPC pricing, bid landscape modeling, and reserve price optimization. • Run rigorous experiments to evaluate the impact of auction mechanism changes—such as bid shading, second-price vs. generalized second-price auctions, and dynamic pricing—and translate results into actionable recommendations. • Develop statistical and machine learning models to forecast bid distributions, predict click-through rates, and optimize auction efficiency across advertiser and consumer dimensions. • Build simulations to model auction dynamics and stress-test proposed mechanism changes before live deployment. • Partner closely with Engineering, ML, and Product to translate business and advertiser needs into well-specified model and system requirements. • Enable objective decision-making by building dashboards and monitoring frameworks that surface auction health, advertiser performance, and CPC trends to stakeholders across the organization. • Apply expertise in causal inference, mechanism design, and econometrics to ensure our auction systems are fair, efficient, and aligned with marketplace goals. • Present analytical findings and strategic recommendations in a compelling way to influence Instacart's leadership and Ads go-to-market teams.
