Senior Clinical Engineering System Administrator

• Responsible for supporting the Director with the daily responsibilities of the Clinical Engineering Systems Administrator (CESA) team while providing technical expertise, guidance, and assistance in the area of clinical equipment network systems for Trinity Health Clinical Engineering (THCE). • Responsible for planning, maintenance, troubleshooting and management of biomedical and imaging network (LAN/WAN) devices and infrastructure (i.e. servers). • Works with CESA team members, key stakeholders, CEOs, Senior Management Leadership, and Information Services teams at Regional Health Ministries (RHM) and System Office to develop effective strategies and implementation plans. • Promotes a department focused on IT compatibility and security of RHM medical technology assets. • Serves as an escalation point to local RHM clinical engineering staff for guidance, technical assistance and remediation on device installation, cybersecurity and other matters as to not impact patient safety. • Keeps Medical Equipment Technology & Cybersecurity Director informed in a timely manner of issues affecting device configuration, network connectivity, or cybersecurity of medical equipment. • Monitors clinical equipment that utilizes networking technologies and/or Unix or Windows based operating system. • Monitors Medigate and Service Now tickets to respond to issues such as malware incidents, security policy expirations, inappropriate network data traffic. • Provides technical expertise to Clinical Engineering staff and on-site service as necessary. • Serves as network (LAN/WAN) systems administrator for various and numerous Clinical Engineering Equipment systems/servers not managed by Trinity Information Services. • Accesses servers for reboots, patching, and configuration of new applications, etc. • Serves as conduit for escalations and remediations between the vendor and TIS to understand and implement fixes, policies, and procedures. • Serves as sole technical resource for implementation of clinical equipment requiring network interface configurations. • Assists with development of project timelines, milestones and responsibilities. • Works directly with vendors and all levels of management and support staff for scheduling and ensuring a timely adherence to established timelines. • Performs root cause analysis for all related network device outages and performance issues. • Utilizes SQL and Python to perform data/trend analysis, and identify root cause of issues. • Documents solutions to problems, trouble-shooting techniques and developing end-user guidelines. • Recommends configuration changes to medical device and network environment based upon technology landscape, industry trends and experience. • Presents network security solutions and key medical device security metrics at monthly update meetings. • Manages user security and access, data backup processes, installation and/or upgrades of medical device related servers. • Responsible for the end to end installation, testing of servers and upgrades. • Works with vendors and THCE staff on hardware and software patch implementations. • Develops documentation of data maps and network layout diagrams for sites. • Maintains database of all system related information related to clinical equipment including IP data, OS, criticality, and recovery information.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associates' degree in medical electronics, electronic technology or computing infrastructure network technologies or related field plus five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a hospital service support position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology strongly preferred.
  • Certified Radiology Equipment Service (CRES) preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in infrastructure environments performing network administration utilizing LAN/WAN hardware and software solutions.
  • Experience in medical equipment service management, project management, and implementing best practices in a service support group, leading cross-functional work teams, with demonstrated results in reducing medical equipment repair and/or service costs, as well as, increased customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge and experience associated with maintenance on nuclear medicine, diagnostic x-ray, therapeutic x-ray, ultrasound, or radiation therapy equipment, including but not limited to, R/F, Vascular/Specials, CT SIM, Mammography Units, PACS, 1st Look Cath Lab, CT etc.
  • Experience or demonstrated proficiency with Windows and/or Unix based operating systems.
  • Must possess a comprehensive working knowledge of medical equipment, strong working knowledge of electronics, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, regulatory guidelines, and biomedical principles.
  • Advanced analysis of test data and interpretation of schematic diagrams is required.
  • Manufacturer specific technical training on multiple modalities, and the ability to apply that knowledge in support of equipment throughout the healthcare system.
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of standards and principles which govern electronic interchange of clinical data which use HL7, DICOM, TCPIP, and other protocols as they apply to the support and maintenance of biomedical networked systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and manage service support vendor relationships.
  • Must be continuously, but constructively, demanding of service cost controls coupled with quality performance.
  • Must possess a passion for reducing total operating costs through sound strategic planning, and goal-oriented accountability.
  • Prior budget and financial management experience.
  • Must be comfortable with managing conflict and willing to challenge conventional thinking at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to understand and define most critical issues and develop methodologies for collecting and analyzing relevant data (i.e., make vs. buy, total Cost Of Service Ratio (COSR), total Life Cycle Cost, lease vs. buy, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Must possess a high sense of urgency in carrying out the day-to-day functions in order to ensure devices are functioning as intended and patient safety is not compromised.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form, presenting a professional image at all times.
  • Ability to quickly gain a fact based understanding of current supplier base and major trends in relevant markets.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and independent worker and ability to juggle priorities and manage own work.
  • Must be able to operate effectively in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of HIPPA and network security standards and policy.
  • Ability to provide technical instruction and training to others.
  • Must have a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring as well as the ability to inspire and to motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
