About This Volunteer Role We are seeking a Volunteer Project Manager for our Human Resources team to help keep projects organized, timelines visible, and communication flowing—without the pressure or expectations of a paid corporate role. This role is especially well‑suited for individuals who are interested in HR, exploring HR as a career path, or who already have some HR or people‑operations experience and want to deepen their skills in a supportive, mission‑driven environment. This role is intentionally scoped for sustainability, making it ideal for: - Early‑to‑mid career professionals - Career switchers building PM or HR experience - HR professionals looking to add project management skills - Experienced professionals volunteering a few hours per week - Retired or semi‑retired professionals who enjoy mentoring and structure Time commitment: ~3–5 hours per week Expected term: 3–9 months (flexible and extendable) What You’ll Do (Realistic & Shared Ownership) You will support, not single-handedly own, HR projects. Responsibilities include: - Facilitate one weekly check‑in for the HR team (agenda provided) - Help track a small number of active HR projects and priorities - Learn our onboarding workflows and help document or improve them - Support communication between HR and partner teams (Recruiting, Internships, Marketing) - Gently follow up with volunteers on timelines and blockers - Help keep task boards, notes, or simple trackers up to date - Share brief project updates during meetings or via email You are not expected to manage performance, enforce deadlines, or act as a people manager. What We’re Looking For (Must-Haves) - Able to volunteer 3–5 hours per week - Comfortable organizing tasks, notes, or timelines - Clear and kind communicator in a remote environment - Interest in HR, nonprofit work, and strengthening American democracy - Willingness to work with and support other volunteers - Located in the U.S. with at least 1 hour/week overlapping with U.S. PT Nice to Have (Not Required) - Exposure to project coordination, HR, or recruiting - Familiarity with Agile, OKRs, or task-tracking tools - Interest in mentoring or supporting newer volunteers If you have more than 5 hours per week, there may be additional ways to contribute, but this role is intentionally scoped to avoid burnout.
