Perform paralegal duties involving residential loan servicing and default proceedings in compliance with outside counsel guidelines, applicable laws, regulations, and company policies related to litigation and mortgage servicing. Responsible for supporting the Legal Department in managing litigation, contested proceedings, and legal issues related to mortgage servicing and lending. Ensure timely and appropriate actions in compliance with company policies and applicable state and federal laws, including mortgage servicing, lending and consumer protection regulations. Perform all duties in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures, all US state and federal laws and regulations, wherein the company operates. As a government contractor this position has specific requirements including prior work experience in the mortgage banking industry as well as education and other experience requirements. The target pay range for this position is $75,000.00 to $95,000.00 What you’ll do: - Assist with resolving cases by gathering and organizing information needed for assessing settlement opportunities and preparing draft requests for settlement approval. - Resolve routine legal issues under the guidance of senior legal personnel. - Open and maintain matters in case management system, including handling incoming mail and service of process. - Assist in reviewing pleadings served by third parties or prepared by outside counsel, including but not limited to summons, complaints, affidavits, answers, motions, orders and judgments. - Assist with preparing discovery responses and coordinating with business units. - Review various legal documents for accuracy and completeness including gathering information required, making corrections and resolving discrepancies. - Manage document subpoenas by collecting responsive records and preparing formal responses. - Oversee the full lifecycle of capped fee and non-material matters, including performing initial assessment to select from preferred counsel and ensuring proper opening, referring to counsel, monitoring progress, ensuring timely advancement and closing. - Secure key personnel for mediations, depositions, and other events that require in person, telephonic or virtual appearances. - Coordinate and manage correspondence with outside counsel, third-party entities, and business units in a timely and appropriate manner. - Oversee adherence to loan servicing agreements and delegated authority matrixes. - Conduct factual research including gathering relevant information from a variety of resources. - Prepare check requests, vendor payee forms, IT access and change forms, and FedEx labels. - Conduct pre-claim title review including reviewing title records, organizing documents, creating chronologies, preparing and submitting title claims, monitoring for response from insurers and working with carrier retained counsel. - Serve as liaison between outside counsel, internal departments, in-house attorneys, and other stakeholders. - Provide legal and administrative support to departmental staff, including scheduling meetings, managing phone communications and assisting with projects. - Maintain calendar of events and key deadlines. - Maintain matter-related reports (quarterly, monthly, and ad hoc) and assist with ensuring their accuracy. What you’ll need: - Knowledge of mortgage servicing and lending operations, as well as litigation relating to these business practices. - Ability to work well in a collaborative environment and to operate independently. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Proficient with Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams. - Strong analytical and organizational skills. - Ability to work with outside counsel, investors, vendors, business units and legal department personnel. - Ability to understand complex problems, pay close attention to details, take notes, and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions. - Skilled in assessing decisions with potential impact on the immediate team, while proactively monitoring broader organizational effects. - Ability to accurately track and record time. - Associate’s degree from accredited college and paralegal certification or a bachelor’s degree from accredited college required. - Two (2) or more years’ experience working as a paralegal. - Two (2) or more years’ experience working in the mortgage banking and servicing industry.
