We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture. About This Role As part of Intersect’s Data team, you’ll architect and build the cloud-native data infrastructure that powers analytics, operational visibility, and advanced modeling across the company. This role is responsible for designing scalable data pipelines, both batch and real-time, that transform complex datasets into reliable, high-performance assets for decision-making. You’ll serve as a subject matter expert in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery while partnering closely with Operations, Software Engineering, and other stakeholders to deliver trusted, production-grade data systems. A key focus of this role includes building and optimizing streaming architectures to ingest and process real-time telemetry and operational data. Team Overview This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the clean energy transition by building the data foundation that supports operational excellence and informed decision-making. The Data team partners across Development, Engineering, Operations, and Technology to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable data systems. Joining this team means shaping the architecture that enables real-time insight across a growing infrastructure portfolio. What You’ll Do Architect Scalable Data Pipelines - Design, build, test, and monitor robust data pipelines that support both batch and real-time processing - Develop cloud-native architectures capable of scaling with increasing data volumes and system complexity - Implement orchestration workflows to ensure reliable, automated pipeline execution Optimize GCP & BigQuery Performance - Serve as the subject matter expert for GCP data services, including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, and Dataflow/Dataproc - Design and optimize BigQuery schemas, partitioning, and clustering for performance and cost efficiency - Monitor and continuously improve query performance and infrastructure utilization Build Streaming & Real-Time Architectures - Architect and manage streaming data pipelines using technologies such as Pub/Sub, Dataflow (Apache Beam), or Kafka - Ingest and process real-time telemetry and operational data with high reliability and low latency - Ensure fault tolerance and resilience across streaming systems Enable Data Quality & Governance - Implement automated data validation, monitoring, and alerting frameworks - Establish data governance best practices to maintain accuracy, security, and integrity - Document data models, transformations, and pipeline logic to support long-term maintainability Partner Across Teams - Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Software teams to understand data requirements and deliver production-ready datasets - Support advanced analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives - Translate complex data challenges into scalable technical solutions What You’ll Bring - 3–5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or a related role - Deep hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, and Dataflow or Dataproc - Strong programming skills in Python and advanced SQL - Demonstrated experience building and maintaining real-time streaming data architectures - Experience with data orchestration tools such as Cloud Composer (Airflow) or similar platforms - Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT design, and scalable architecture principles - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field—or equivalent practical experience - Clear communication skills and a collaborative work style that will help you succeed in cross-functional environments Preferred experience that will help you stand out: - Background in the power, utility, or infrastructure sectors - Familiarity with SCADA systems, industrial historians (e.g., PI System), time-series databases, or industrial IoT data - Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines for data deployments - Familiarity with additional programming languages such as Rust Ready to build the data backbone that powers real-time insight and operational scale?
