Role Description We’re looking for a Procurement & Legal Lead to help strengthen and mature our procurement, contracting and legal operations. Reporting into the Director of Operations, and leading a team of one, this is a highly cross-functional role suited to someone who enjoys balancing commercial pragmatism with governance, legal awareness and operational enablement. As we scale our fleet of islanded gas-fired generation assets, real-time fuel management, balancing precision, and hedging discipline will become mission-critical. Reporting to the Head of Origination, Trading, and Market Analytics, the Lead Gas Trader will build and lead Intersect’s gas trading, physical scheduling, and balancing platform from the ground up. This role will sit at the center of our commercial operations, ensuring reliable fuel supply, managing daily burn volatility, and constructing a robust financial and physical risk management framework. This role will develop and execute a gas hedging and management strategy while coordinating with origination on long-term and short-term gas purchases and sales. Team Overview The Origination & Trading team is responsible for Intersect’s revenue generation via long term contracting done on the Origination side and market optimization & hedging done on the Trading side of the team. As our gas exposure grows alongside our islanded generation fleet, we are launching a dedicated in-house gas trading and scheduling function. The Lead Gas Trader will design and execute this capability, managing both: - Financial gas hedging strategy; - And, physical scheduling, balancing, and transport optimization This function will directly support asset operations, power trading, and origination, ensuring fuel reliability while managing extreme price volatility and structural basis risk. What You’ll Do - Project Learning & Team Participation: - Join project discussions with engineers and cross-functional teams to build real-world experience. - Identify potential project issues and suggest possible solutions with guidance from senior team members. - Research new technologies and approaches related to large-scale energy infrastructure. - Project Support & Risk Awareness: - Support engineering team members across early-stage development through project execution. - Review project schedules and budgets with senior staff to help keep projects on track. - Help identify design, budget, or schedule risks and flag potential fatal flaws early. - Site Design & Coordination: - Assist with managing site constraint maps, layouts, and civil designs from early-stage siting through construction notice to proceed. - Coordinate with external surveyors and engineering consultants to track deliverables and updates. - Help track development risks related to buildable land area and permitting requirements. - AI Tools, Documentation & Process Improvement: - Support the development of AI tools that improve engineering analysis and calculations. - Contribute to organizing and improving design review workflows and technical documentation. - Assist with maintaining technical specifications, contractor exhibits, and vendor information. Qualifications - Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or closely related field) with strong academic standing. - Internship, co-op, design team, or academic project experience in civil engineering, infrastructure, or energy development. - Working knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS and Google Workspace applications. - Foundational understanding of grading, drainage, hydraulics/hydrology, geotechnical engineering, or structural analysis principles. - Interest in utility-scale solar, wind, energy storage, or other large-scale infrastructure systems. - Analytical mindset with curiosity about automation and AI-enabled engineering tools. - Eligibility to work in the United States or Canada (visa sponsorship not available). - Thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and remote-forward environment. - Collaborative, detail-oriented, and proactive work style that will help you succeed on multidisciplinary project teams. - Demonstrated alignment with Intersect’s values of Equity, Humility, Authenticity, Long-Run Value, and People Come First.
