Data Product Owner

Sutton National Group

• Define and prioritize enterprise data initiatives that support finance, actuarial, claims, compliance, program performance, and operational reporting. • Serve as the product owner for key data domains and data products, maintaining roadmaps and prioritizing backlog items based on business value and regulatory needs. • Partner with assigned stakeholder groups across claims, actuarial, finance, operations, and compliance to gather requirements and align data solutions with strategic objectives. • Translate business requirements into clearly defined data product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria for technical teams. • Ensure data products meet standards for quality, accessibility, governance, and regulatory compliance across the organization. • Collaborate with Technology, data engineering, and analytics teams to design and deliver scalable data solutions, dashboards, and reporting capabilities. • Oversee the lifecycle of data products including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing enhancement. • Support insurance regulatory and bureau reporting initiatives (including statistical reporting such as NISS and other regulatory data submissions). • Promote data governance, data quality, and standardized definitions across insurance program and operational data. • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting insight, portfolio monitoring, and operational performance through enhanced data capabilities. • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure data initiatives align with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance frameworks. • Act as a subject matter expert on P&C insurance data structures, reporting workflows, and regulatory data requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Data Analytics, Business, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 8+ years of experience in the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry with strong exposure to underwriting, program business, regulatory reporting, and insurance data management.
  • 5+ years of experience working with insurance data, analytics, or data product management.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders and delivering enterprise data initiatives.
  • Proficiency with SQL or similar data querying tools and experience working with modern data platforms and BI tools.
