• Manages and oversees the design and development of software applications • Directs the work of engineers to ensure the best practices around software development • Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs • Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets • Extensive knowledge of departmental processes • Complete required training, as assigned, within the established time-frames • Ensure staff is informed of product upgrades or enhancements in a timely manner • Hire and train competent staff • Verify departmental time-sheets for departmental employees ensuring the time-sheets are accurate based on the work-schedule and necessary corrections are done prior to timely Payroll submission • Develop and mentor departmental staff by providing career coaching; motivate departmental staff individually and as a group; understand and support diversity; and establish an effective team • Conduct initial and annual performance evaluations • Promote teamwork; discipline staff when warranted • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with established policies • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

• Lead and develop one to two agile development teams (4-8 engineers), providing coaching, mentorship, and career development to continue building our high-performing, collaborative engineering organization. • Partner closely with Product Management to translate business requirements into technical roadmaps, ensuring teams have clear priorities, well-defined requirements, and the resources needed to deliver high-impact features • Own team delivery and operational metrics, removing blockers, managing technical dependencies, and ensuring predictable sprint execution and on-time delivery of committed features • Collaborate with leadership to align technical decisions with business goals and deliver outstanding customer value. • Participate in technical decision-making and architecture discussions, balancing near-term delivery needs with long-term platform scalability, maintainability, and technical debt management • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement by facilitating retrospectives, implementing process refinements, and promoting knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration across engineering teams • Contribute to the broader engineering organization by participating in hiring, defining team standards and processes, and helping shape Great Gray's engineering culture as the technology team scales

• Provide technical and strategic leadership for the Legal Research team • Ensure excellence, consistency and advancement of the state of the art in Legal Research • Sustain technical excellence through rigorous experimentation • Represent Legal Research in strategic decision-making

• Foster an environment that values engineering excellence from Enterprise-grade scalability, Database performance, and fault tolerance to world-class web accessibility, performance beyond Web Vitals, semantic markup and bulletproof CSS best-practices. • Hire, onboard, and develop team members who embody GitLab's values and contribute to building a peak-performance organization. • Manage and improve agile, remote, async workflows so the team can iteratively deliver platform improvements and crucial features, communicating proactively when priorities shift or blockers emerge. • Partner with Product Management, Product Design, and cross-functional engineering teams to align frontend and backend architecture with business goals and user needs. Maintain clear visibility into bug backlog health, stalled MRs, and milestone misses. Proactively address patterns of delayed execution before they require leadership escalation. • Conduct regular 1-to-1 meetings, provide continuous feedback, and support engineers' professional growth through coaching and skill development opportunities.
