• Preparing and/or reviewing EPC RFP packages and associated technical specifications • Evaluating EPC proposals to assist selection of preferred EPC contractors • Providing technical support during negotiations of EPC contract • Preparing or reviewing specifications such as main power transformers, switchgear, and other electrical equipment • Reviewing and providing technical commentary on EPC contractor’s electrical engineering design drawing packages and supporting calculations: Simple and combined cycle electrical system design packages, Renewable low-voltage (both DC and AC) systems, AC collection system for solar and batteries, Collector substation and interconnecting substation expansion, Gen-tie transmission

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering design of utility-scale power/storage projects
  • Experience in power projects as part of EPC team or Owner’s Engineer is a plus
  • Auxiliary power system design experience (thermal power generation, preferably gas-fired combined cycle, is a plus)
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others.

Role Description Welty Energy is looking for a Senior Electrical Substation Engineer to join our Energy team! As part of the Welty Energy Substation Team, you will represent our client(s) specific to substation design working on projects ranging from 12kV-500kV. While this position can be remote, the hired team member is to be based in the United States (currently). Relocation and sponsorship is unfortunately not provided at this time. Day to day, you may: - create and modify protection and control design drawings including, but not limited to one-lines, three-lines, AC schematics, DC schematics, communication drawings, wiring diagrams, etc. - create and modify physical drawings including plan and section views, yard layouts, bill of material lists, grounding drawings, etc. - perform calculations such as battery sizing, AC loading, voltage drop, conduit fill, lightning protection, lighting design, and ground grid studies. - perform reviews of Substation Engineers and Designers work to ensure they meet code, customer requirements, and good engineering practices. - coordinate with other disciplines such as project management and civil engineering teams. - interface with client’s engineering groups and project management team to provide regular and timely updates. - review manufacturer drawings. - incorporate red line drawings from the field to as-builts. - update design leads or project managers on project status as needed. - perform site visits when necessary. Role Description As a part of the Engineering team, the Sr. Electrical Engineer-Data Center will provide subject matter expertise on Electrical Engineering design, final engineering, and construction permitting of data center projects as well as utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. As a Sr. Substation Engineer, you will lead or support utility and power substation projects and clients.
