Strategy & Business Operations Lead (Engineering)
Vannevar Labs
Vannevar is a defense technology company building AI to deter our adversaries. In the 21st century, conflict moves at algorithmic speed and foresight equals firepower. Our agentic AI is purpose-built to compete with China—from cross-Strait conflict to gray zone coercion. Trained on the most mission-relevant datasets in defense, our technology models adversary behavior, simulates campaigns, and recommends the best course of action to decision makers. Our AI systems are some of the most trusted in the industry and actively used on the front lines of the Indo-Pacific to keep the peace and save lives. Exceptional technology starts with exceptional people. Vannevar is a small agile team combining world-class engineers with veteran strategists who bring deep expertise in defense and tradecraft. We’re building a company defined by mission impact, user empathy, and disciplined growth. In just three years, we grew from $3M to $80M in ARR, achieved early profitability, and reached unicorn status—proving that disruption doesn’t require an ego, and staying power doesn’t mean standing still. About the roleThis role sits at the intersection of engineering and executive leadership at Vannevar. You will partner closely with our technical leaders to drive high-impact, cross-functional initiatives that directly shape how our engineering organization scales. This role is focused on enabling technical excellence at scale — improving engineering execution, building operational rigor across technical teams, and ensuring we can grow quickly without sacrificing quality, cost discipline, or velocity. What you’ll do - Serve as a force multiplier to the Executive Vice President of Engineering and other engineering leaders, helping translate executive priorities into clear technical roadmaps and execution plans - Improve engineering prioritization, planning, and delivery across multiple concurrent initiatives - Build and scale operating systems that increase visibility into performance, resourcing, and technical execution - Lead high-impact, cross-functional engineering initiatives from ambiguity to shipped outcomes - Strengthen the foundations for engineering scale, including org design, hiring alignment, documentation, and ownership clarity What we’re looking for - 3–5+ years of experience in a technical environment (startup or high-growth tech company) - Strong technical fluency — able to interface credibly with engineers and understand architectural tradeoffs - Demonstrated experience working directly with engineering teams (not purely strategy or consulting exposure) - Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-paced environments - High ownership and bias toward action - Exceptional cross-functional partnership skills What we value - Degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or another technical field - Exposure to US government or defense environments - Familiarity with national security or dual-use technology What we offerCompetitive SalaryThe salary range for this position is $160,000 - $190,000 + equity. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, relevant education, and/or training. Comprehensive BenefitsWe’re proud to offer competitive benefits that support our employees. Some key highlights of our benefits package include: - Health, dental, and vision insurance - Remote friendly with WeWork access - Unlimited PTO, shared downtime during the federal holiday calendar, and company-wide off time at the end of each year - 401(k) match - Lifestyle & wellbeing stipends - Salary top-up during military reserve duty - Fully paid parental leave - Child and pet care reimbursement during travel Vannevar is an equal opportunity employer, and qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender perception or identity, national origin, age, marital status, protected veteran status, or disability status. We encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply, even if you don't feel like you're a perfect fit. If you're passionate about contributing to our mission, we'd love to hear from you! Company Description
Engineering Manager
Jerry.aiJerry.ai is America’s first and only super app to radically simplify car ownership. We are redefining how people manage owning a car, one of their most expensive and time-consuming assets. Backed by artificial intelligence and machine learning, Jerry.ai simplifies and automates owning and maintaining a car while providing personalized services for all car owners' needs. We spend every day innovating and improving our AI-powered app to provide the best possible experience for our customers. We are the #1 rated and most downloaded app in our category with a 4.7 star rating in the App Store. We have more than 5 million customers — and we’re just getting started. Founded in 2017 by serial entrepreneurs and has raised more than $240 million in financing. Join our team and work with passionate, curious and egoless people who love solving real-world problems. Help us build a revolutionary product that’s disrupting a massive market.
Role Description The technical challenge: - More than 80% of Americans own a car and see it as a fundamental necessity, yet the experience of owning one is stuck in the 90s. - Every part of the user journey (shopping for a car, insurance, repairs, etc.) is complicated, fragmented, expensive, and time-consuming. - At Jerry.ai, we are building the first mobile app to manage it all. - Our insurance marketplace is our core product today, and our ability to automate the end-to-end shopping experience is our core differentiator. - The Marketplace Automation Team owns the most critical part of that, the "last mile", where we orchestrate complex, multi-step transactions with external systems to finalize insurance policy purchases. - We build custom orchestration layers that navigate internal and external interfaces with precision due to the industry's lack of modern APIs. - Your challenge will be to evolve our current automation systems to a robust, fault-tolerant framework that can handle external interface changes gracefully and scale across dozens of new categories with minimal manual intervention. Why you will (or won’t) like working here: - Ownership: You’ll report directly to our co-founder/CTO, who is actively involved in product implementation. There is no red tape, no slow-moving processes, and no layers of approvals needed. If you have an idea, you can pitch it, build it, and see it live in days. - Stellar team: We have a very high bar for talent, resulting in a small but mighty team that can move fast and accomplish a lot. You will work with likeminded peers who are equally passionate and who care intensely about what they do. - Hands-on: Many of our TLMs are ex-founders, they like getting their hands dirty and solving difficult problems. You will spend 80% of your time doing hands-on technical work (e.g., transitioning our legacy automation systems into a more decoupled, scalable architecture). - Volume of customer data: We are a consumer-facing business (5M+ customers) and have access to a massive amount of customer data across behaviours like driving/telematics, shopping, payment, etc., which helps guide our product, technical and business decisions. What you’ll own: - Our first automation system was built for speed, not scale. Today, it’s a web of tightly coupled business logic and database access that makes changes risky and failures hard to debug. - Phase 1: You’ll be deep in the code, learning both the technical and business sides of our core product (insurance is very complex and every insurance provider uses different logic and behaves differently). Then you will lead incremental refactoring of our existing automation systems: designing and implementing new standards and pairing with engineers to ensure the new system is predictable and testable. - Phase 2: As the architecture stabilizes, you’ll shift towards using an AI-first approach to building the next generation of internal tools that will allow us to grow from 5M to 50M users. Who you are: - A Player Coach: You likely founded a company or were a lead architect at an early stage startup. You are a builder at heart and like being in the trenches alongside your team. - A Detective: You are obsessed with success rates. You love hunting for edge cases in complex business logic and won't stop until you understand exactly why a script failed. - A Systems Thinker: You have a high bar for system design, especially for offline, asynchronous jobs. You understand that async work requires much stricter standards for decoupling, state management, and failure retry logic than synchronous online systems. Qualifications - Experience in building and leading technical teams. - Strong background in system design and architecture. - Proficiency in TypeScript (Nest.js, React), GraphQL, AWS (ECS/EKS, Lambda). Requirements - Ability to work hands-on with code and lead technical projects. - Experience with complex business logic and asynchronous systems. - Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Benefits - Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage. - Paid time off and paid parental leave. - 401(K) plan with employer matching. - Wellness benefits. - Equity opportunities may also be part of your total rewards package.
