Job Description
Sales Engineer
Clever
Role Description Clever is seeking a senior or mid-level Sales Engineer who can seamlessly bridge the gap between complex technical capabilities and mission-critical school needs. In this senior role, you will be the primary technical architect for our most significant prospects, helping school leaders understand how Clever’s secure, scalable infrastructure—specifically Clever IDM and Classroom MFA—addresses their most sophisticated cybersecurity challenges. We are hiring for this position to lead the technical charge as our paid offerings scale; you will act as a high-level trusted advisor, shaping the future of our product suite by building the frameworks and solution blueprints that pave the way for long-term institutional success. How You'll Make an Impact - The problem you’ll solve: Neutralize technical friction in the enterprise sales cycle, translating complex identity management and cybersecurity hurdles into clear, high-confidence business value for school executives. - Who you’ll partner with: Serve as the strategic technical lead for the Sales team, while acting as a vital bridge to Product and Engineering to ensure our roadmap evolves to meet the needs of large-scale school systems. - What success looks like: Earn deep technical credibility with school CTOs, deliver sophisticated proof-of-concepts for "never-before-seen" technical environments, and significantly accelerate the closure of multi-year enterprise deals. - Key projects you’ll lead: Spearhead technical discovery for our most complex high-value prospects, design bespoke architectures that integrate Clever Core with Clever+, and create the standardized technical playbooks that allow our services to scale globally. Qualifications - Senior Pre-Sales Expertise: 2+ years of experience in technical pre-sales, solutions architecture, or technical sales — with a focus on managing high-stakes customer engagements in the SaaS or EdTech sectors — or equivalent experience (4+ years at the district level). - Master of Discovery: Proven ability to lead deep technical discovery sessions, navigate multi-threaded stakeholder environments, and build prototypes that resonate with both IT leads and C-suite executives. - Advanced Technical Depth: Mastery of SSO protocols (SAML, OAuth), APIs, and Identity Management. Deep familiarity with Google Admin Console, Active Directory, Entra, and the complexities of Student Information Systems (SIS). - Communication Mastery: Exceptional ability to distill complex technical roadblocks into persuasive narratives for executive presentations and high-level technical documentation. - Strategic Engagement: Willingness to travel (~25-30%) to build in-person relationships and lead the technical close for flagship accounts. - Operational Excellence: A disciplined approach to managing multiple high-priority deals simultaneously while maintaining a "white-glove" customer experience. Preferred Qualifications - IAM Specialist: Deep hands-on experience working with Identity and Access Management systems within a large-scale school organization. - Technical Scripting: Proficiency in a scripting language (e.g., Python, JavaScript) with expertise in SQL and advanced API integrations. - Interoperability Standards: Advanced knowledge of industry standards such as OneRoster, LTI, or SCIM. - Enterprise Systems: Familiarity with the broader institutional tech stack, including LMS, HRIS, and ERP systems. Benefits - A competitive salary - Flexible Paid Time Off - Paid Parental Leave - Top-notch healthcare, vision, and dental coverage for you and your family - Best-in-class mental healthcare service that supports employees' mental and emotional wellness - A generous personal development yearly budget which can be used for courses, conferences, trainings, books, and more - A comprehensive Learning & Development program that enables employees to enhance their skills, knowledge, and functional expertise - Annual company and team events to connect with fun, bright coworkers Salary Transparency The range of our base salary cash compensation for this role for candidates living in the United States, besides NYC and San Francisco, CA, is between $87,000 - $135,000. For candidates living in NYC and San Francisco, CA is between $95,000 - $148,000. This position also offers a 10% target variable annual bonus incentive. All final offers are determined using multiple factors including experience and level of expertise. Inclusion & Belonging Clever believes classrooms and our company should be diverse and inclusive. We celebrate actions that build diverse teams, include every voice, and create safe spaces for everyone to bring their authentic selves to work.
