Civil/Structural Substation Engineer

Role Description - Responsible for Civil and Structural Engineering related tasks as assigned, with minimal to moderate guidance, in support of Electrical Substation design. - Perform structural steel, structure anchorage, and concrete foundation designs. - Generate structural steel and reinforced concrete details. - Develop structural analysis models and design of steel structures and equipment support foundations. - Utilize in-house developed design tools to assist in analysis, post-processing, and creating construction drawing information. - Assist in the preparation of calculation reports and packages, steel and rebar fabrication shop drawing review, and construction submittal review. - Involved in executing structural steel and concrete analysis, design, and detailing for transmission and distribution electrical substations with voltage classes up to and including 345kV. - Review and produce civil/structural design drawings including Site Plan, Grading and Drainage Plan and Details, Foundation Plan and Details, and Oil Containment Plan and Details. - Work towards developing a self-directed autonomous level of responsibility while under the direction and supervision of a registered Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent. - Professional Engineer licensure or EIT certification with plans to obtain PE license within 2 years. - 2-6+ years of civil/structural substation design engineering experience, preferably at an engineering consulting firm (can be evaluated at higher level based on experience). - Experience with Excel, Word, Mathcad, RISA3D, MFAD, L-Pile, EnerCALC, and AutoCAD are preferred. - Familiarity with standard building codes including IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, and AWS (Experience with ASCE 113, NESC, or IEEE standards a plus). - Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% when needed within the continental US. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent.

Primary Responsibilities: - Prepares technical memoranda, reports, calculations, correspondences, designs, drawings, specifications, permit applications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates on less complex projects or discrete tasks on more complex projects under the direct supervision of senior staff. - Assists the Project Manager and other senior staff in complying with assigned project schedules and budgets on less complex projects or discrete tasks on more complex projects by actively reporting on project progress and by identifying additional work outside the contractual Scope of Work. - Works with subconsultants under the direction of the Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager. - May serve as Lead Designer on less complex projects or discrete tasks on more complex projects to produce a complete and coordinated project by meeting and effectively communicating with the project team. - Reviews calculations, design assumptions, and concepts within discipline to assure quality control. - Provides technical input into proposals on less complex projects, or discrete tasks on more complex projects by developing scope of work, budgets, and schedules by relying on historical information or experience. - Assists in the preparation of technical presentations. - Participates in client meetings and/or technical presentations. - Works effectively and efficiently within established hourly budgets and monitors self-performance. - Develops expertise in pertinent local, state, and federal regulations. - Develops and maintains positive relationships with clients on technical issues by effectively communicating on a frequent and regular basis as directed by the Project Manager. - Leads fieldwork such as surveying, GPS data collection, infrastructure inspections and assessment, water sampling, and construction observation. - Assists with construction administration by tracking and reviewing submittals, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, reviewing, and compiling daily and weekly construction reports, and tracking construction schedules. - Provides updates to a Senior Project Engineer and/or Project Manager. - Develops and maintains positive working relationships with staff.
