Job Summary and Responsibilities The Senior System Engineer will have a thorough and comprehensive mastery of support platforms/products and environments. They focus a majority of their time on complex engineering, architectural and implementation tasks. Project assignments are large in scope and highly complex. They assist with evaluation, engineering /design and implementation services for new products, technologies and solutions as well as serve as escalation support to Tier 1 and Tier 2 system engineers. Essential Functions: - Provides advice, guidance and expertise to promote adoption of methods and tools and adherence to policies and standards. Evaluates and selects appropriate methods and tools in line with agreed policies and standards. Implements methods and tools at project and team level including selection and tailoring in line with agreed standards. Manages reviews of the benefits and value of methods and tools. Identifies and recommends improvements. Contributes to organizational policies, standards, and guidelines for methods and tools. - Coordinates and manages planning of the system and/or acceptance tests. Takes responsibility for integrity of testing and acceptance activities and coordinates the execution of these activities. Provides advice and guidance on any aspect of test planning and execution. Identifies process improvements, and contributes to corporate testing standards and definition of best practice. - Leads the assessment, analysis, planning and design of release packages, including assessment of risk. Conducts post release reviews. Ensures release processes and procedures are applied and that releases can be rolled back as needed. Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of appropriate release and deployment tools, techniques and processes (including automation). Teksystems has a client that needs to add a Linux Engineer to their existing team. The role will start off as a long term contract with the potential of conversion with the client. The client needs help with a modernization effort from Shell to Python scripting. They recently implemented RunMyJobs (a scheduling tool that works with SAP). This person will be responsible for rewriting the scripts in Python, understanding the input and output, and moving it all into the automation scheduling suite (RunMyJobs). The person who originally wrote the scripts wrote their own custom Unix program to do the scheduling, so it’s not a simple “lift and shift” effort. The ideal candidate will have Linux experience and have excellent experience writing Python scripts. This person will have come from a Linux Engineer role (not devops or apps).
