Summary: As a YA Fire Consultant, you will provide high quality consulting services relating to fires, explosions, and losses of significance for YA’s customers, which include insurance companies, third-party adjusters and independent businesses and insureds. YA Fire Consultants work closely with a team of engineers and litigation specialists to support our clients throughout the entire investigative process, from the initial scene examination to providing expert testimony if needed. Fire Consultants are expected to use a large measure of independent judgement, considering, and weighing alternatives when appropriate, considering the financial and operational significance of the services being performed. The ideal candidate has an established network of clientele and is experienced with building, establishing, and maintaining rapport with this network. This is a remote position. Role & Responsibilities: - Lead complex fire and explosion investigations, determining cause and origin across residential, commercial, and industrial settings. - Collaborate with law enforcement, fire departments, and insurance companies to gather information. - Collect and analyze evidence using various methods, including witness interviews, scene photography, fire pattern analysis, and data preservation. - Analyze building systems and relevant fire codes, identifying potential failure modes and recommending solutions. - Prepare clear and concise reports outlining investigation findings for clients. - Provide expert testimony or attend depositions if necessary. - Develop and maintain positive client relationships through clear communication and meeting established deadlines. - Stay current on fire investigation trends, regulations, and best practices. - Perform other duties as required. Summary: The Senior Managing Biomechanist leads a team of expert engineering staff in human-injury analysis in vehicular accidents, premises liability and slip-and-fall incidents. Analyses of injury biomechanics may require reconstructing vehicular accidents, slip-and-fall incidents or determination of factors responsible for development of the incident. This position requires extensive experience in forensic biomechanical analyses. This role performs investigations focusing on musculoskeletal biomechanics to determine the relationship between accident modes and injuries, requires evaluation and analysis of biomechanical systems including voluntary and involuntary human motions, assessment of situations leading to the accident, and reconstructing the accidents. The role ideally includes familiarity with legal depositions, working with attorneys and claims adjusters. Additionally, the ideal candidate has an established network of external clientele and is experienced with building, establishing and maintaining rapport with this network. Role & Responsibilities: - Leads a team of experts in conducting detailed inspections of vehicles and accident sites and accurately analyzes crash sequences to identify contributing factors and the induced loading on the occupants. - Uses computer models to reconstruct accidents and to measure load and injury levels. - Supports business development efforts by building and maintaining rapport with current clients and generating new work for themselves and a team of experts supporting them. Partners with business development representatives, attends conferences and events to promote the company and skills of expert staff. - Communicates with clients and team regarding scope of work, investigation tasks, budget, and ensures all project completion timelines, deadlines and deliverables are met. - Ensures workload is evenly distributed amongst experts. - Mentors, leads and guides a team of experts in all aspects of project work. - Provides expert testimony at trials, depositions, or other legal proceedings and communicates investigative findings in a manner easily understood by technical or non-technical audiences. - Inspects and measures vehicles. - Reviews various documents to identify relevant information for an accident reconstruction or biomechanical engineering analysis (includes police reports, medical records, depositions, expert reports, legal pleadings and discovery documents, videos, photographs, etc.) - Performs simulations of vehicular collisions using advanced collision reconstruction software such as PC-Crash, Virtual Crash or HVE (or similar). - Evaluates the effects of impact forces on occupants as a result of vehicular accidents. - Determines human injury mechanisms in vehicular accidents and premises liability cases such as slip-and-fall accidents. - Performs accident reconstructions of single-vehicle rollovers, single-vehicle impacts with fixed objects, and multi-vehicle collisions (frontal, side, rear, and sideswipe). - Utilizes engineering principles to calculate factors such as impact and departure speeds, collision forces, and trajectories of vehicles. - Compares calculations with crash test reports of similar collisions to correlate damages based on calculated velocities. - Reviews papers and journals related to vehicular accident reconstruction to understand and advance the scientific techniques used in reconstruction work. - Provides written conclusions of findings to assist others in understanding the evidence or in determining the facts at issue.
