Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Data Management Librarian Serving as a member of the Research Data Management team, this role is responsible for providing services and resources to support data literacy at MSK. In this role, you will be part of a collaborative team, advancing best practices and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles in support of data services at MSK. You will offer resources and training in research data management, including data management planning, curation and preservation of data, and support for data use and analysis. You will develop data resources and tools, including the MSK Data Catalog. You will also collaborate with the MSK research community to develop and maintain MSK data resources. This includes creating metadata records and other documentation to enable users to effectively access data needed in research and patient care, maintaining standards, and developing improved cataloging workflows. Keeping up-to-date on data services and best practices, you will also be responsible for conducting classes, workshops, and other presentations in data management best practices, data sharing requirements, and other related topics. Analyzing usage data and other metrics to improve data services and training, you will also participate in library projects and teams to improve these services. This role is critical to serving the MSK goals to lead in pioneering research and innovate in care delivery and education by ensuring the library’s data collections are current, accurate, and reliable so the MSK community can rely on these scholarly resources to complete their workflows. This position coordinates with other library staff to provide aligned services and education. Role Overview: - Strategizes selection of data for inclusion in MSK Library discovery services - Creates records and maintains metadata related to MSK researchers and their output (datasets, code, and other tools) - Trains users in data-related topics promoting FAIR principles and best practices, such as data management, data sharing, and repository selection - Develops educational resources to support this training and the data needs of the MSK community - Keeps up-to-date and disseminates information to support grant and NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy compliance - Analyzes and tracks data usage and other metrics to improve data services and training - Takes an active role in developing and implementing annual education plan for team and self Key Qualifications: - Master’s degree in library/information science or a related health or information field - 2 years of experience in health sciences librarianship, data management, or in an information science field - Experience with established metadata and cataloging tools and standards and demonstrates a willingness to learn. - Experience working with institutional repositories, research databases, and integrated library systems. - Familiarity with generative AI and best practices in a clinical and research environment - Proficiency in project management - Understanding of data literacy and the ability to explain technical concepts to library users Core Skills: - Understanding of cataloging MARC or Dublin Core records and applying subject headings, such as MeSH or LCSH. - Knowledge of database structure and design. - Strong understanding of and experience with research data management and related metrics. - Experience with public speaking and delivery of training to adult learners - High level attention to detail. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. - Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail regardless of task. - Evidence of initiative and flexibility. - Adaptable to changing work environments and departmental priorities. - Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in core and emerging practices, standards, and trends in research data in an academic and/or library environment - Collaborative mindset for working with colleagues in the library and stakeholders outside the library Additional Information: - Schedule: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST, Monday - Friday - Location: Hybrid: 1-2 times per week on site in NYC Manhattan office Helpful Links: - Compensation Philosophy - Benefits Pay Range: $69,400.00 - $107,600.00 FSLA Status: Exempt MSK is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer committed to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of recruiting and employment.
