Taconic Biosciences
• Shadowing members of the accounting department as they perform their duties • Working with Accounting software • Learning how to work as part of the accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support the organization • Assist with various areas of the company’s accounting processes, recording journal entries, preparing balance sheet reconciliations, and balance sheet workpapers • Maintain compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures • Support ad hoc financial information requests and analyses and other special projects as assigned • Exposure to financial statements including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow • Support the month-end close procedures • Participate in reconciliations and mid-year standard cost calculations • Assist with inventory accounting • Learn how the company tracks and manages the raw material and finished goods inventory to ensure that the company's financial statements accurately reflect the value of its inventory and cost of goods sold. • Fixed asset accounting • Learn how to record and manage the company’s fixed assets • Track capital expenditure projects • Capitalize assets, dispose of assets, and depreciate assets • Bank reconciliations • Accounts receivable aging reports, journal entries, balance sheet workpapers and reconciliations • Other duties may be assigned.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Insurance Accounting Manager to join our accounting team. This role will be responsible for the financial accounting of our workers' compensation program, with a primary focus on premium and losses. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in insurance accounting and a keen eye for detail. You will work closely with our finance and claims teams, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements. In addition to managing the workers' compensation portfolio, you will have the opportunity to learn and assist with other insurance-related accounting tasks. What You’ll Do: Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes for workers' compensation premium and losses. Prepare and analyze journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements related to insurance accounts, including control documentation. Utilize Tableau to create premium and loss bordereaux for reinsurance partners Work collaboratively with the claims and actuarial teams to ensure accurate loss data. Reconcile premium receipts with Stripe/Braintree and loss activity with third-party administrator (Sedgwick). Provide detailed analysis of variances and trends in premium and loss accounts. Assist with budgeting and forecasting for insurance-related expenses. Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations for insurance accounts. Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency within the insurance accounting function. What We Need: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in insurance accounting. Strong working knowledge of premium and loss accounting is required. Understanding of workers' compensation accounting is a plus. Proficiency with financial software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy. CPA designation is a plus.
