Assistant Commissioning Manager
SOLV Energy
• Manage the project commissioning team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient and effective execution of tasks. • Report daily to the Sr. Commissioning Manager, the status of each project as assigned. • Review technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements related to commissioning and assist with the development of a project milestone and deliverables list, project specific commissioning plan, and commissioning procedures. • Communicate directly with the client, trade partners, and OEM suppliers regarding equipment specific testing and commissioning activities. • Coordinate with project teams, including engineering, construction, and quality assurance, to ensure alignment in all commissioning activities. • Assist with the development of the integrated P6 testing and commissioning schedules. • Ensure that the integrated testing and commissioning schedule is updated weekly. • Assist with the development of the commissioning resource plan for the project. • Prepare electrical energization procedures and oversee all major energization and hot commissioning activities. • Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions to resolve technical issues identified during commissioning or initial operation. • Train and mentor team members for a variety of roles on project teams. • Support the development of standards and processes to improve business. • Manage all pre-commissioning, cold, warm, and hot commissioning tests, including initial energization, synchronization, functional testing, utility capability testing, and project acceptance testing for all BESS & PV plant systems. • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations. • Prepare detailed daily commissioning reports, documenting test results, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken. • Monitor project timelines, and resources to ensure successful project delivery. • Continuously improve commissioning processes by incorporating feedback and lessons learned from completed projects. • Prepare and maintain Lessons Learned and equipment warranty tracking logs. • Establish and manage: Safety Tagging, Lockout, Red Rope, and Work Permit Programs ensuring site compliance with all provisions upon the start of cold commissioning activities throughout project Substantial Completion.
Job Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in testing and commissioning on utility scale electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure.
- Proven experience managing project teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
- Utility scale solar, battery storage, and high voltage experience.
- Fiber installation and testing.
- SCADA system understanding, testing, and commissioning.
- DC systems architecture and testing.
- Knowledgeable in National Fire Protection Association/National Electrical Code (NFPA/NEC) standards, and IEEE/IES/API Standards.
- NETA and IEEE standards as related to utility scale solar generation, ie. Transformers, MV and LV cabling, grounding, and solar specific component testing.
- Understands the commercial performance of power plants.
- Familiarity with NERC guidelines and various ISO and TSO organization requirements a plus.
- Familiarity with DCS / SCADA control systems and methods for utility scale generation a plus.
- Familiarity with testing of mechanical and solid-state relaying systems a plus.
- Functional competencies include attention to detail, communication, customer focus, prioritization, and drive.
