Join us, and let’s improve lives together. **Candidates that exceed the minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.** **This position can be performed remotely for candidates who reside in Illinois.** Essential Functions: - Selects, grows, and maintains a profitable book of business for assigned territory within underwriting authority. - Evaluates complex accounts, such as different business operations, multiple lines of business or special pricing requirements, for risk selection and pricing purposes. - Analyzes exposure, company and branch risk appetite, account premium and loss history, financial data, line(s) of business, price guidance, motor vehicle records, online sources of information, reports from premium audit or risk improvement and other relevant information to underwrite policies. - Offers appropriate coverage for exposures. - Maintains proper file documentation in connection with accounts. - Develops and fosters agency relationships. - Educates agents on EMC products, underwriting appetite, systems, and services. - Visits agencies to discuss accounts and provide agents with updates at EMC. - Communicates with agents proactively. Identifies opportunities and potential barriers within agency relationships. - Collaborates with marketing representatives to ensure agents receive excellent customer experiences, responsiveness, and select EMC as their insurer of choice. - Effectively explains decisions to accept or reject a risk to agents. - Coordinates with marketing and branch management in the agency planning and review processes. - Monitors progress of assigned agents and guides agents in achieving annual goals. - Seeks feedback from agents and takes action to improve their experience and grow strong books of business. - Researches industry changes, competition, target markets and new products. - Answers questions, shares recommendations for complex situations and explains rationale for recommendations for less experienced underwriters. Education & Experience: - Bachelor's degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience - Three years of experience in commercial lines underwriting - Insurance designations, such as CPCU preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Strong knowledge of underwriting and risk analysis - Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions - Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently - Ability to maintain high standards of professional competence - Strong customer service skills - Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media - Ability to work on multiple projects while meeting deadlines - Ability to effectively communicate products, procedures, business planning and system information necessary to positively influence production within assigned territory - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak in front of others - Strong presentation skills preferred - Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if traveling The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following: $78,726 - $108,771 or $87,008 - $119,646A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
