• Conducts risk assessments and follows NLG Underwriting philosophies by analyzing data, using tools (e.g. medical records, prescription databases, borrowing history, credit rating etc.), and third party information (e.g. medical records, prescription databases, borrowing history, credit rating etc.) to protect NLG bottom line and maintain profitability by avoiding fines and putting good risk on the books. • Proactively seeks information (e.g. processes, philosophies, etc.), takes advantage of both formal and informal educational opportunities (e.g. medical and mentoring discussions, etc.) to build the foundations of a solid Underwriting career and continuously expand knowledge, skills, and abilities. • Coordinates and communicates (verbal and written) with internal and external constituents to gather information, gain insights, and explain Underwriter decisioning and works to build relationships in a way that demonstrates seamless service excellence. • Participates in interdepartmental presentations, helps with new hire training in various subjects. At the higher levels of Underwriting, will guide and educate others to improve Underwriting quality, capabilities, efficiencies, and output. • Identifies, communicates, and resolves escalations to deliver on seamless service and protect the bottom line.

• Drive continuous improvement across the underwriting journey, including application flow, reflexive questions, rules logic, and evidence sources • Serve as a primary liaison between the underwriting engine carrier, third party vendors, and Business Architecture teams • Participate in business requirements development for initiatives impacting underwriting processes and systems • Monitor rules engine performance to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, increase auto decision rates, and ensure alignment with Life Guide • Review vendor performance and recommend enhancements to existing solutions as well as potential new third party data sources • Manage monthly underwriting rulebook releases for both Simplified and Traditional workflows • Support testing efforts and validation of system releases and new product integrations • Support training initiatives related to the underwriting engine and third-party vendor processing • Lead pilot efforts for emerging technologies and support implementation of new tools and data sources • Partner with corporate leadership to analyze underwriting results and identify opportunities to improve new business value • Respond to daily production inquiries with clear, timely, and accurate guidance for underwriting teams • Proactively identify risks, gaps, and dependencies ahead of product launches and supports smooth execution through clear communication and collaboration.
