Surfline\Wavetrak, Inc.
Surfline is seeking a motivated undergraduate student to join our Forecast Team as a part-time intern for Summer 2026. This role offers hands-on experience in surf forecasting operations, data analysis, and Python scripting. The intern will work closely with Lead Forecasters to support daily forecast production, validate data, and improve the accuracy and communication of surf reports for the U.S. East and West Coasts. Under Surfline’s “Work from Anywhere” policy, this position may be performed on a remote basis from any location within California. What You'll Do: Forecast Operations & Support - Assist in creating daily surf reports and forecasts for domestic markets. - Monitor real-time data sources (buoys, wind stations, smart cameras) for accuracy. - Participate in team discussions on forecast strategy and model interpretation. Data Analysis & Python Projects - Support data validation by analyzing surf model outputs and observational data. - Use Python for tasks such as automating workflows, cleaning datasets, and creating visualizations (creativity encouraged). Communication & Collaboration - Document insights and contribute to internal knowledge sharing. - Assist in preparing content that communicates forecast accuracy and model updates. - Attend team meetings and provide ideas to improve workflows and tools. What We're Looking For: - Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (Junior or Senior preferred). - Coursework or experience in Meteorology, Oceanography, Data Science, or related fields. - Basic proficiency in Python (data manipulation, scripting, plotting). - Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You May Also Have: - Passion for surfing, ocean science, or coastal environments. - Familiarity with surf forecasting concepts or frameworks.
