We are looking for an experienced professional to join our Products development team and play a critical role in shaping the user experience of Sangoma’s desk phones and telephony devices, focused on embedded, hardware-contained device experiences, used daily by businesses worldwide. While this is a remote position, we are looking for someone in either eastern or central time zones. Sangoma is dedicated to empowering organizations through reliable Unified Communications, UCaaS, CCaaS, VoIP, and Hybrid solutions. In this role, you will focus on how our desk phone products work, not just how they look—designing clear, efficient, and predictable iteraction models for task-critical communication workflows.

Job Requirements

  • Your Role:
  • You will be responsible for defining and evolving the interaction models, task flows, and usability foundations of Sangoma’s phone firmware and device interfaces.
  • Provide UX design for desk phones (embedded, hardware-constrained products) with physical keys, small and/or touch screen displays.
  • Define task flows and interaction patterns for telephony features such as calling, transfers, conferencing, voicemail, etc.
  • Create UX and UI artifacts including user flows, wireframes, and interaction specifications, icons, and graphics.
  • Produce clear interaction specifications and design documentation to support long development and maintenance cycles.
  • Collaborate closely with firmware engineers to ensure UX designs are accurately implemented.
  • Partner with Product Management to align UX decisions with real-world user needs and business priorities.
  • Identify edge cases, error states, and recovery paths to ensure reliability under real usage conditions.
  • Contribute to usability testing and incorporate feedback into iterative UX improvements.
  • Ensure designs/implementations support all corporate and regulatory standards.
  • Advocate for usability, consistency, and simplicity across Sangoma’s device ecosystem
  • Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of experience (5+ years preferred) in UX and user interface design, product design, or interaction design.
  • You are naturally curious, eager to learn, and motivated to understand how design decisions translate into real behavior.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, task-focused, workflow-driven interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of human–computer interaction (HCI) principles, including cognitive load, affordances, and error prevention.
  • Comfortable prioritizing clarity, reliability, and speed of use over visual expressiveness when necessary
  • Ability to communicate UX rationale clearly to engineers and non-design stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar
  • Experience working in cross-functional Agile product teams.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with telephony, VoIP, or enterprise communications products
  • Experience designing constrained or non-traditional platforms, such as embedded devices, hardware products, enterprise tools, or operational systems.
  • Understanding of localization and internationalization considerations
  • Prior exposure to usability testing or field studies in enterprise or operational environments
