Role Description The Controls Retrofit Engineer is responsible for leading complex retrofit engineering projects including control system design, control panel engineering, PLC, HMI, and robotics programming, and providing site start-up support of material-handling equipment and automation equipment for the material handling, manufacturing, and logistics industries. - Serves as subject matter expert on retrofit control systems and electrical engineering principles. - Provides control systems design technical leadership in a matrixed environment. - Applies electrical engineering principles to analyze, propose, design, program, test, and troubleshoot control systems. - Reviews contract documentation and customer specifications. - Supports realization team on project installation, commissioning, and testing of control systems. - Develops technical documentation including control system specifications and engineering procedures. - Frequently interacts with customers and suppliers. - Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements - 40 – 60% of travel as required. - Advanced knowledge of PLC ladder logic and programming. - Proficiency in Siemens, Rockwell, and Allen Bradley PLCs. - Thorough understanding of fieldbus systems and I/O equipment (e.g., Profibus, Profinet, ASi, TCP/IP). - Advanced understanding of other controls automation-related equipment (e.g., Bar code scanners, HMIs, Variable frequency drives). - Knowledgeable on AC drives, both open & closed loop. - Experience in Ethernet IP network design and machine safety a plus. - Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Word, PowerPoint, & Excel. - Excellent documentation and technical writing for product manuals, work instructions, and troubleshooting. - Ability to remain stationary at a desk for prolonged periods of time. - Ability to go to site frequently and move safely around industrial and/or warehouse environment. - Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds at a time. - Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices. - Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing, on a frequent basis. - Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
