Controls Retrofit Engineer

Role Description The Controls Retrofit Engineer is responsible for leading complex retrofit engineering projects including control system design, control panel engineering, PLC, HMI, and robotics programming, and providing site start-up support of material-handling equipment and automation equipment for the material handling, manufacturing, and logistics industries. - Serves as subject matter expert on retrofit control systems and electrical engineering principles. - Provides control systems design technical leadership in a matrixed environment. - Applies electrical engineering principles to analyze, propose, design, program, test, and troubleshoot control systems. - Reviews contract documentation and customer specifications. - Supports realization team on project installation, commissioning, and testing of control systems. - Develops technical documentation including control system specifications and engineering procedures. - Frequently interacts with customers and suppliers. - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical degree, or equivalent work experience. - Minimum of four (4) years of controls engineering experience, preferably in a material-handling, industrial, or manufacturing environment. - Some retrofit experience preferred. Requirements - 40 – 60% of travel as required. - Advanced knowledge of PLC ladder logic and programming. - Proficiency in Siemens, Rockwell, and Allen Bradley PLCs. - Thorough understanding of fieldbus systems and I/O equipment (e.g., Profibus, Profinet, ASi, TCP/IP). - Advanced understanding of other controls automation-related equipment (e.g., Bar code scanners, HMIs, Variable frequency drives). - Knowledgeable on AC drives, both open & closed loop. - Experience in Ethernet IP network design and machine safety a plus. - Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Word, PowerPoint, & Excel. - Excellent documentation and technical writing for product manuals, work instructions, and troubleshooting. - Ability to remain stationary at a desk for prolonged periods of time. - Ability to go to site frequently and move safely around industrial and/or warehouse environment. - Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds at a time. - Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices. - Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing, on a frequent basis. - Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
