Role Summary: We are seeking an experienced Web Scraping Engineer to join our data engineering team and work closely with Senior Data Engineers on VendueTech’s large-scale public data scraping platform. This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining resilient scraping systems that operate across diverse websites, countries, and languages. You will take ownership of scraping components end to end — from extraction logic and anti-blocking strategies to data quality and handoff into downstream ETL and AI systems. This is a hands-on role with significant technical autonomy and impact. Key Responsibilities: Web Scraping & Extraction Systems - Design, develop, and maintain production-grade web scrapers using Python tools such as BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, Selenium, and Playwright. - Extract structured and unstructured data from static and dynamic, JavaScript-heavy websites. - Build and maintain scrapers for complex sources including marketplaces, auction platforms, and public data portals. - Proactively monitor scraper performance and rapidly adapt to website structure or behavior changes. Anti-Bot, Scaling & Reliability - Implement and evolve strategies to handle CAPTCHAs, rate limiting, IP blocking, bot detection, and geo-restrictions. - Work with proxy management, browser fingerprinting mitigation, user-agent rotation, and request throttling. - Improve scraper stability, observability, and failure recovery at scale. Data Quality & Integration - Ensure high standards of data accuracy, consistency, and completeness during extraction. - Clean, normalize, and structure scraped data for downstream processing. - Collaborate closely with Senior Data Engineers to integrate scraping outputs into scalable ETL pipelines and storage systems. - Support multi-country and multilingual scraping requirements. Collaboration & Technical Contribution - Work alongside data engineers, AI engineers, and product teams to translate data needs into robust scraping solutions. - Contribute to internal tooling, reusable scraping components, and best practices. - Provide technical input into system design discussions related to data acquisition. What we are looking for: - 5+ years of professional experience in web scraping, crawling, or data extraction. - Strong proficiency in Python, with deep hands-on experience using BeautifulSoup for HTML parsing. - Experience with scraping frameworks such as Scrapy and browser automation tools like Selenium or Playwright. - Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DOM structures, and network requests. - Proven experience scraping dynamic, high-volume, or frequently changing websites. - Experience implementing anti-blocking and reliability strategies in production environments. - Ability to work independently while collaborating within a larger engineering team.
