Position Summary The Research Services team seeks an experienced Research & Knowledge Analyst to join the firm’s Knowledge & Innovation department. The Research & Knowledge Analyst will perform legal and business research to support firm needs. The position reports to the Research Manager within the Research Services group and may be remote, however, the successful candidate must reside in a state where the firm has a physical office. We will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in the manner consistent with the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring. Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered for the position in accordance with the Fair Chance Ordinance. Essential Functions - Conduct legal and business research for attorneys and staff across multiple offices using a centralized ticketing system, analyzing findings and delivering clear summaries for both quick-reference questions and complex research projects - Advise attorneys and staff in the selection and navigation of resources - Accurately record billable research in firm’s time entry system in accordance with firm policy - Participate in the evaluation of new-to-market and updated versions of resources to determine potential value to firm - Participate in collaborative Research Services and Research Team meetings (video conference) - Conduct onboarding training for new and lateral attorneys and staff - Conduct highly specialized research trainings for practice groups, offices, and other attorney groups upon request - Participate in strategic projects to support Knowledge & Innovation and Research Services goals - Stay engaged with new legal research technologies, tracking emerging AI tools, platform updates, and evolving methods to maintain strong research skills - Participate in professional development through internal and external training and involvement in professional associations - Maintain strict confidentiality of firm matters and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive information - Model qualities and performance desired in firm employees, including attendance, professionalism, and quality work product - Use resources in compliance with firm’s policies and industry best practices Requirements - MLS from an ALA accredited program and/or JD with relevant law library/research services experience - 4+ years of law firm library/research services experience preferred - Proficient in use of Quest, Westlaw Edge, Lexis+, Bloomberg Law, LexisNexis Practical Guidance, VitalLaw, LexisNexis CourtLink, PACER, HeinOnline, Hoovers, Accurint, TLO, and other research resources - Working knowledge of cost-effective research techniques - Team mindset and excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, facilitating effective working relationships and customer service - Strong attention to both detail and accuracy - Ability to work independently and efficiently under time constraints and exercise independent judgment - Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel as well as Teams - Adept at handling multiple projects and shifting priorities - Strong critical thinking and initiative and problem-solving abilities - Keen interest in innovation and technology, and ability to quickly learn and utilize new resources - Please note, we are not working with outside recruiters for this position. Benefits In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this Colorado position is between $71,040 and $106,560. In accordance with New York State’s Wage Transparency Law, the expected salary range for this New York State position is between $64,720 and $117,480. In accordance with California’s amended labor code as stated in Senate Bill 1162, the expected salary range for this California position is between $66,800 and $117,480. In accordance with the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunities act, the expected salary range for this Washington position is between $74,480 and $111,720. In accordance with the Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act, the expected salary range for this DC position is between $74,480 and $111,720. In accordance with Maryland’s Equal Pay for Equal Work-Wage Range Transparency Law, the expected salary range for this Baltimore position is between $66,800 and $100,200.  In accordance with Illinois Equal Pay Act Transparency Notice, the expected salary range for this Illinois position is between $74,480 and $111,720. In accordance with Massachusetts Frances Perkins Workplace Equity Act, the expected salary range for this Massachusetts position is between $78,320 and $117,480. In accordance with Minnesota Pay Transparency Law, the expected salary range for this Minnesota position is between $66,800 and $100,200. In accordance with New Jersey Senate Bill 2310, the expected salary range for this New Jersey position is between $78,320 and $117,480. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. About the opportunity Are you passionate about applying science to better understand Hawaiʻi’s wildlife and flora? SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and self-motivated Temporary Assistant Staff Environmental Scientist with strong interpersonal skills and a background in natural resources and biological studies to join our fast-paced, supportive team of Hawaiʻi-based biologists. This individual will primarily support field operations for a large wildlife monitoring project on the islands of Maui and Lanaʻi. Depending on the selected candidate’s skills and experience, they may also assist with other natural resources projects on Maui or other islands throughout Hawaiʻi, as needed. The Assistant Staff Environmental Scientist should have the technical aptitude to quickly learn and perform a range of project-related tasks. These include deploying and maintaining wildlife monitoring equipment, managing data, completing field logs, drafting brief reports, and coordinating with the project manager and team regarding project progress. This position is primarily field-based and may involve working independently or in small teams. It requires a strong level of physical fitness, the ability to hike over varied terrain with a backpack, work in a range of weather conditions, and safely operate four-wheel-drive vehicles. This is a temporary, hourly position that can be performed remotely from anywhere on Maui. Compensation will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. The position will report to a Maui-based Project Manager. For this position, depending upon the project, an element of your job may be to independently supervise a biological survey crew in the field. This includes: - Independently assigning and directing the activities of others on behalf of SWCA, often in remote areas without immediate guidance from senior managers, to ensure quality and on-time delivery; - Ensuring that employees understand their responsibilities and delegated tasks and being held accountable if crew members under your supervision are not performing their activities correctly, productively, and safely; - Serving as a conduit of communication between employees and senior managers, including communicating issues to relevant senior managers; - Receiving and resolving complaints from employees in the field; and - Monitoring team productivity and providing timely performance feedback, including deciding when disciplinary action is necessary and delivering discipline.
