Role Description NFTE is seeking an experienced nonprofit finance leader to oversee the organization’s finance function and serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Financial Officer. This role will lead the operational management of finance while working across the organization to strengthen financial planning, improve financial systems and processes, and support sound decision-making as NFTE continues to grow. The Senior Director of Finance will manage the finance team, oversee budgeting and financial analysis, and collaborate closely with program, development, and operational leaders to ensure the organization’s financial resources are effectively aligned with its mission. This role offers the opportunity to play a central leadership role in strengthening NFTE’s financial operations as the organization continues to evolve and expand. Key Responsibilities - Lead the day-to-day operations of NFTE’s Finance function, including accounting oversight, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, financial reporting, contracts, and financial systems. - Manage and develop the Finance team, currently consisting of three staff members with anticipated growth as the organization expands. - Establish and maintain strong financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure sound financial management and compliance. - Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing finance team culture. - Lead the organization’s annual budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with department leaders to align financial planning with strategic priorities. - Develop financial models, projections, and scenario analyses to support leadership decision-making. - Provide regular financial reporting and variance analysis to the CFO and senior leadership. - Monitor financial performance, cash flow, liquidity, and overall financial position of the organization. - Serve as a key financial partner to leaders across the organization, helping departments understand financial performance and make informed decisions. - Lead internal financial problem solving and develop financial processes where infrastructure does not yet exist. - Translate complex financial information into clear insights for leadership and non-finance stakeholders. - Drive improvements to financial systems, reporting tools, and workflows to enhance financial visibility and operational efficiency. - Lead or support financial system upgrades, conversions, or integrations as needed. - Ensure effective use and optimization of NFTE’s financial management system, Blackbaud Financial Edge. - Support financial planning and operational integration related to organizational growth initiatives. - Contribute to financial due diligence, modeling, and operational integration planning when appropriate. - Ensure finance processes and reporting systems scale effectively as the organization evolves. Qualifications - 10–15 years of progressive experience in nonprofit financial management with increasing leadership responsibility. - Demonstrated experience overseeing the full finance function, including accounting, budgeting, financial planning and analysis, and financial reporting. - Strong experience working in nonprofit funding environments including fundraising, grants, contracts, and restricted funding. - Experience leading complex financial initiatives such as system implementations, financial infrastructure improvements, or organizational integrations. - Experience with financial system conversions or implementations strongly preferred. - Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities. - Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Excel. - Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge or comparable nonprofit financial systems preferred. - Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively across departments. - Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate financial information into actionable insights. - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
