We have an exciting opportunity for a Field Applications Scientist, ideally to be based in the Midwest/South at SPT Labtech. You will be part of the global FAS team which serves as the key interface between the sales team, Marketing and end-users and will provide expert-level support for our liquid handling suite of products. About the role: We are looking for a personable, well-organized scientist with a strong background in at least one, and interest in all of the applications in which our instruments are used. The role will require significant travel throughout the Midwest/South USA, with occasional travel to the East USA and our UK headquarters. The role requires working with colleagues from across multiple time zones and territories, requiring some flexibility in meeting schedules, but as our FAS team are home-based, there will be flexibility in scheduling appointments with customers and colleagues, allowing for a balance in work and personal responsibilities. The FAS responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Pre-Sales - Organize and run product demonstrations on all SPT Labtech liquid handlers. Subject Matter and Instrument Expertise - Maintain a high-level operational knowledge of our liquid handling products. - Maintain high level of subject matter knowledge in relevant application areas. - Provide on-going subject matter expertise support to FAS and Territory Management teams. Training and Support - Arrange and provide applications-based training to new and existing users of all SPT Labtech and Apricot liquid handling instruments. - Provide on-going remote and in-person applications support to end-users. - Develop, modify, and enhance advanced liquid handling and automation protocols to optimize client operations. Internal Support - Contribute to conference strategy and attend conferences. - Maintain Salesforce recordkeeping. Marketing - Seek and deliver a targeted amount of marketing content in the form of customer-driven applications notes, webinars, and conference-presentations, including posters - Participate in strategic collaborations to regularly deliver scientific content for marketing. - Collect customer feedback (product development, software, etc). - Maintain positive customer relationships. - Mentor and provide guidance to Associate FAS, as needed. Skills & Attributes - MSc with at least five years’ practical experience or a PhD and at least two years practical experience in a Biological Science discipline, liquid handling, laboratory automation or related field in an industry or academic environment. - Working knowledge of NGS methods used in research, with experience using liquid handling and automation being preferable (HTS, Assay Development, or molecular or structural biology backgrounds will also be considered) - Experience with workflow optimization in genomics, drug discovery, and structural biology. - Good understanding of genomics, drug discovery, and structural biology. - Practical experience with genomics/molecular biology is desirable. - Ability and willingness to travel extensively (up to 75%), including internationally. - Amiable personality; excellent organizational, analytical, troubleshooting, record-keeping, and communication skills; professional demeanour. - Previous experience in field applications, teaching, marketing or customer service a plus. - Leadership ability with a demonstrated record of mentorship. - Ability to work efficiently and both independently and within a team structure. - Ability to work toward corporate goals. - Excellent presentation and training skills. Role Description Seeking a Senior Applications Engineer with deep technical expertise in IC design and characterization with strong technical communication skills to support customer engagements and develop comprehensive product documentation. The ideal candidate will serve as a critical technical bridge between our design teams, customers, and business development organizations. Key Responsibilities - Product Documentation & Technical Content - Create detailed technical specifications, characterization data, and application guidelines. - Develop and maintain comprehensive product datasheets for ASIC and standard product offerings. - Document electrical characteristics, timing diagrams, functional descriptions, and package information. - Ensure all technical documentation meets industry standards and customer requirements. - Produce application notes, design guides, and reference designs that enable customer success. - Customer Technical Support - Conduct design reviews and offer guidance on IC integration and system-level implementation. - Deliver technical presentations and training to customers and field application engineers. - Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to customers and internal teams. - Troubleshoot customer design issues and recommend solutions. - Product Characterization & Validation - Analyze silicon measurement data and validate performance against specifications. - Define and execute IC characterization test plans across process, voltage, and temperature corners. - Support failure analysis and root cause investigation activities. - Work with design and test engineering teams to optimize product performance. - Cross-Functional Collaboration - Collaborate with product marketing to define product positioning and competitive advantages. - Contribute to new product definition based on customer feedback and market requirements. - Interface with IC design teams to understand product features, limitations, and optimal use cases. - Support sales teams with technical expertise during customer engagements. Technical Skills - Ability to translate complex technical concepts into customer-facing content. - Exceptional technical writing skills with ability to create clear, accurate, and comprehensive documentation. - Experience with documentation tools and version control systems. - Experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, etc.). - Experience with semiconductor device physics, CMOS technology, and circuit operation. - Familiarity with industry-standard communication interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, DDR, SerDes, etc.). - Knowledge of IC packaging, thermal management, and power delivery considerations. - Proficiency in interpreting and analyzing electrical test data and characterization results. - Strong presentation skills for both technical and business audiences. - Strong understanding of digital and/or analog IC design principles. • Build the Application Security Program • Develop policies, procedures, and standards to safeguard our applications. • Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate security threats. • Help manage external pentesting required to meet regulatory compliance. • Integrate Security into the SDLC • Implement and manage a Secure Software Development Life Cycle (SSDLC) process. • Design, implement, and operate a DevSecOps program with automated security testing in our CI/CD pipelines. • Guide development teams in integrating security best practices. • Manage a security bug-bounty program, responding to reports in a timely manner and ensuring fixes are tested and implemented by our developers. • Foster a Secure Code Culture • Promote application-security awareness and best practices across all teams. • Conduct code reviews and provide guidance on secure coding practices and secure software architecture. • Provide training and resources to development teams to ensure secure coding practices.
