Chief Engineer

Leidos is seeking a Chief Engineer for the Department of Justice IT Portfolio that provides various IT services, engineering, and technical support for customers primarily within the Department of Justice. Support includes managed IT services, managed service desk (Tier 1), deskside support (Tier 2), workstation and server engineering and maintenance, security, managed print services, ITSM, infrastructure, Agile development, and end user support to name a few. This is an exciting opportunity for a technology leader looking to work on a large, complex, and dynamic portfolio with many programs, $950M in size. The Chief Engineer is responsible for driving technical execution on the program and technical thought leadership that impact strategic customer results and Leidos business results. This role influences strategy by developing new solutions and plans to be competitive and effective for Leidos in the marketplace. The individual selected for this position should have a strong technical background and exposure spanning many of the technical areas with an emphasis on operations resilience. The candidate should have the ability to multitask and juggle numerous priorities and customers. The ability to clearly articulate technical messages to executive leadership, including CIOs, CTOs, both through written and verbal means, is critical for success in this position to communicate matters of strategic importance. The individual selected for this position will be able to operate independently. Being able to take the initiative in driving technical execution and is critical. Location: This position may be remote. Periodic visits to various customer offices in the Washington, DC, metro area may be required. Primary Responsibilities Include: - Responsible for the technical direction and delivery of the portfolio. This includes evaluating technologies and creating a strategy and associated roadmaps to introduce those technologies into the environment. Sustain, identify and implement measures to ensure mission delivery, meet required SLA. Help troubleshoot outages and perform RCA to prevent recurring issues. - Contribute to capture and proposal effort in support of business growth, shape and architect solutions that meet customer evaluation criteria. - Work the key customer contacts (e.g., CIO, CTO) to help drive technological introduction and advise them on technical directions. Advise on emerging technologies, innovation, and alignment with federal modernization and mission requirements. - Develop customer technical responses and review technical deliverables developed by other team members, chair the program’s Engineering Review Board, prepare weekly technical status reports, support proposals and other new business activities, and other duties as required. - Mentor and coach other technical staff and provides clear, effective feedback. Required Qualifications: - Typically requires Masters with 15-20 years of prior relevant experience or Doctorate with 13-16 years of prior relevant experience. - Experience as a chief engineer, chief architect, or chief technology officer, with a strong track record delivering complex and reliable IT solutions to large enterprises - Has an innate understanding of enterprise IT systems and is familiar with emerging technologies and processes - First-hand project management experience in delivering modernization/transformation projects - U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a public trust security clearance - Experience in leading teams delivering in at least 3 of these areas: - System and software architecture and design - Infrastructure/cloud modernization and strong operations background - Desktop and datacenter management - Software Development utilizing Agile - DevOps and containerized, microservices-based software applications utilizing Kubernetes and OpenShift If you're looking for comfort, keep scrolling. Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive will have end-to-end accountability for our revenue funnel across our two primary channels - Retail Sales and Direct-to-Consumer/E-Commerce - from strategy and planning through execution and performance.
