We are building AI-powered finance agents that automate the month-end close and core accounting workflows for mid-market companies. Our product replaces manual, error-prone processes – bank reconciliation, cash application, recurring journal entries, and more – with autonomous agents that reason through financial data, surface exceptions, and maintain full audit trails. We're backed by top-tier investors and are in the early innings of replacing an entire category of back-office labor with AI (https://aiforfinanceteams.com). We're hiring our first in-house finance expert — a CPA who can bridge the gap between accounting expertise and product development. You'll be embedded across the company, working with engineering, product, and design to ensure our agents actually think and behave like great accountants, while also supporting go-to-market as a credible voice with prospects, customers, and the market. This is a cross-functional role reporting directly to the CEO. In the near term, you'll spend the majority of your time on product shaping, validation, and roadmap input. Over time, we'll flex the role toward wherever your impact is greatest — whether that's deeper product work, customer success, or market-facing content and sales support. This role will start off as a part-time contract with potential to turn full-time as the role and product evolves. What you'll be doing - Partner with EPD to define and validate agent workflows for reconciliation, close management, journal entries, and exception handling - Serve as the internal authority on GAAP compliance, month-end close best practices, and controller-level decision-making - Review and pressure-test agent outputs, reasoning chains, and audit trail completeness against real-world accounting standards - Inform SOX compliance requirements including segregation of duties, approval workflows, and documentation standards - Help design the rules, thresholds, and escalation logic that govern when agents act autonomously vs. loop in a human - Contribute to product roadmap decisions across Close, FP&A, Compliance, and broader Finance Fleet phases - Join prospect and customer calls as a domain expert who can speak credibly to controllers, staff accountants, and CFOs - Support CS during implementation by advising on workflow configuration, edge cases, and accounting best practices - Create and review marketing content — blog posts, whitepapers, webinars, case studies — that positions Kinter as a category leader - Help build sales enablement materials grounded in real accounting pain points and workflows Skills & experience we're excited about - Active CPA license and experience working at or with a startup or high-growth tech company - Multiple years as a controller, assistant controller, or senior accounting manager at an in-house finance team — ideally at a mid-market company (~$50M–$500M revenue) - Direct ownership of month-end close, including reconciliations, journal entries, flux analysis, and financial reporting - Deep understanding of the day-to-day workflows, pain points, and judgment calls that controllers and their teams navigate — this is the experience our product is built around - Experience standing up or improving close processes, internal controls, or reporting workflows from scratch - Working knowledge of ERP systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero) and how finance teams actually use them - Exposure to SOX compliance, internal audit, or external audit coordination - Strong communicator who can translate complex accounting concepts for technical and non-technical audiences - Familiarity with AI/ML products or a genuine curiosity about how AI is reshaping finance - Comfort with ambiguity — this is a first-of-its-kind role at an early-stage company #LI-Remote
