Key Responsibilities 1. Design & Architect the ORV Framework - Safety Gate Design: Define the rigorous criteria (The "ORV Checklist") that our teams must pass before launch deployment. - Aviation Cross-Pollination: Adapt airline Line Operational Safety Audit (LOSA) and Safety Management Systems (SMS) to the world of machine learning and computer vision from a transportation perspective. - Verification Logic: Develop the "Testing-to-Truth" pipeline-ensuring that simulated safety wins are verified by real-world edge-case performance before actual ORVs are conducted with our client. 2. Preparation & Execution (The "Flight Readiness" Phase) - Pre-Launch Audits: Lead cross-functional reviews to ensure all "Open Safety Items" are closed or mitigated to an ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) level. - Operational Exercises: Design "Red Team" scenarios and simulated emergency response drills to test the team’s resilience to "black swan" events. - Documentation: Own the formal Safety Case and ORV evidence dossiers required for internal governance and external client. 3. Continuous Safety Oversight (The SMS Loop) - Occurrence Reporting: Support our client’s non-punitive reporting system for remote monitors and field operators. - Verification of Mitigations: When a "disengagement" or "near-miss" occurs, lead the root cause analysis and verify that the resulting code fix or operational change actually solved the problem across all lines of business. - Lead safety compliance, certifications, de-certifications, re-certifications reporting, requirements, and execution. - Build safety business insights and create a strong feedback loop with our client to report tooling or process issues that could impact safety. - Create and support a safety training program internally at TaskUs, in partnership with our client to drive a culture of safety within the organization. - Create and maintain all internal safety audits and controls and report findings to client. - Present safety insights and readiness plans to client during WBRs, MBRs, and QBRs. - Architect and orchestrate safety strategy at the organization level and LOB level. - Prepare the team for ORVs and extract analysis and results/insights to share with the client ahead of ORVs. - Influence Ops and Training strategy as it relates to safety and deployment readiness. - Create and manage a robust safety auditing system and framework - Upskill and restructure our Retro and RCA processes to support our client - Strong written RCAs and Retros - Structured safety framework in every RCA/Retro - Retro/RCA repository to extract safety insights, lessons learned and influence overall training and Ops strategy to address edge cases Candidate Profile & Requirements The "Airline Veteran" Foundation - Experience: Minimum 5 years at a major carrier or aerospace OEM (Boeing/Airbus) specifically within Safety Assurance, Flight Standards, or ORV/ORAT (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer). AV safety experience is an asset. - Deep Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of FAA Part 5 (SMS) and how to translate "Aviation Safety Culture" into a high-growth tech environment. - Risk Modeling: Familiarity with BowTie Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) applied to complex, high-reliability safety processes. The "Robotaxi" Adaptability - Systems Thinking: Ability to understand the interplay between the "AV Stack" (Perception, Prediction, Planning) and the physical vehicle and how our teams support and interact with those vehicles. - Data Fluency: Experience working with large datasets (FOQA/FDM equivalent) to identify trends before they become incidents. - Agility: Comfortable with "Silicon Valley" speed—moving from a 2-year certification cycle to a 2-week software release cycle without sacrificing safety integrity. Core Competencies - Integrity / "Stop-Work" Courage - The guts to delay a high-profile city launch if the ORV data doesn't meet the safety threshold. - Just Culture Advocacy - Ensuring technicians report their own mistakes so the "machine" can learn from them. - Cross-Functional Influence - Getting Software Engineers to care as much about "Safety Cases" as they do about "Feature Velocity." Success Metrics (The First 12 Months) - ORV Standardization: A repeatable, documented ORV playbook is active for all new market entries. - Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR): A measurable reduction in the time between a safety occurrence and a verified system fix. - Safety Culture Score: High engagement in voluntary reporting from the field operations team.
