Title: Senior Writer / Editor Location: Madison, Wisconsin, United States Job Description: Overview Are you a seasoned storyteller and editorial professional who thrives on creating meaningful content with broad reach? The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA), the private fundraising and alumni relations organization for UW–Madison, is seeking a Senior Writer / Editor to help shape two signature publications: as coeditor of On Wisconsin, the university’s award-winning quarterly alumni magazine that reaches more than 390,000 readers worldwide, and as editor of WFAA’s Awards Magazine. In this role, you’ll collaborate with colleagues and freelancers to produce compelling stories that celebrate the people, ideas, and impact of UW–Madison. This hybrid position is based in Madison, Wisconsin, with at least two days per week in the office. Who is WFAA? Essential Functions On Wisconsin - Collaborate with staff at WFAA and the Office of Strategic Communications (OSC) to produce On Wisconsin, UW–Madison’s quarterly alumni magazine. - Partner closely with the OSC coeditor to plan and execute each issue. - Hire freelance writers and secure photography and other visuals. - Coordinate with the printer to ensure high-quality production and timely mailing. - Ensure the magazine is produced on time and within budget. - Share story ideas and success metrics with leadership at WFAA and OSC. - Nominate On Wisconsin content for awards, as appropriate. WFAA Awards Magazine - Work closely with the alumni awards team to develop stories about award recipients. - Coordinate with freelance writers and photographers. - Lead production of a magazine highlighting award recipients. - Provide the awards team with the information needed to stay on schedule and within budget. - Support marketing efforts related to the awards program, as needed. Additional Responsibilities - Write for On Wisconsin and other WFAA publications. - Maintain 4WARD records for people featured in On Wisconsin and constituents who write to the magazine. - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications arts, or of a similar field. - 7 + years of experience in journalism, writing, publishing, communications, or a similar. - Knowledge of magazine publishing, - Experience working with writers and designers - Expertise with Word, as well as Teams, Zoom, or similar conferencing software. - Familiarity with InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Salesforce Marketing Cloud. - Familiarity with MS Office software and Mac operating systems. Essential Functions Major Gift Development - Implement development strategies with assigned constituencies, managing a portfolio of prospects and donors in varying stages of involvement to advance them strategically through the development process in support of WSB priorities. - Work with prospect management, WFAA research and development colleagues to identify and qualify a portfolio of major gift prospects from existing and potential donors. - Schedule and conduct initial assessment/exploratory meetings with prospects, following up with correspondence, phone calls, and additional visits as appropriate to qualify prospects. - Plan and conduct visits/trips, events, and other ongoing contact to build relationships with donors, effectively presenting the case for philanthropic support and explaining gift opportunities. - Develop and write major gift proposals, utilizing both current and planned gift opportunities to best meet donors’ needs, interests, and financial capabilities, including structuring complex or special gifts as appropriate. - Artfully ask for the right gift, at the right time, in the right way. - Collaborate with colleagues, discussing major donor prospects, sharing advice/information, and coordinating activity on shared prospects. Donor Relations/Stewardship/Recognition - Plan and implement recognition for donors, including writing thank-you letters, making personal calls, arranging meetings, hosting events, etc. - Plan and implement ongoing communication and stewardship with donors. - Coordinate with the Alumni Relations team on volunteer opportunities to more deeply engage donors and prospects. - Participate in the external relations activities of the campus unit, attend sponsored events, etc., to solicit, encourage, and increase the involvement of alumni/donors in campus unit & UW activities. Campus Relations - Communicate, problem solve, and anticipate the needs of campus staff regarding accounting for donor-created funds and serve as liaison between WFAA accounting department and campus staff. - Request data/reports from WFAA staff to meet the needs of donors and campus staff. Qualifications Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional work experience. - 3 + years of professional fundraising/ development experience or related experience. - Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills required. - Ability to meet travel requirements (@25%). Program Delivery - Serve as the coordinator for program and project teams in the research, design, development, and implementation of organization-sponsored events, meetings, and other activities. - Use alumni engagement metrics to enhance the effectiveness of programs and events. - Create and document program surveys and evaluations. - Collect KPI data for quarterly reporting. - Conduct secondary research to identify and compile biographical backgrounds on constituents, companies, and industry sectors. - Assist with preparing event materials, collateral, and logistical details. - Provide on-site support during program and event implementation, including coordinating with local partners to plan and execute trips, events, transportation, and day-of logistics. Constituent Relations - Serve as a resource and support for alumni volunteer leaders. - Under the direction of the supervisor and managing director, identify, develop, and implement regular communication tactics to foster a strong alumni network. - Build and maintain positive relationships with campus and community colleagues and work collaboratively to advance university objectives. - Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external clients. - Respond promptly and courteously to inquiries from internal and external constituents, taking the initiative to seek information and resolution. - When possible, seek feedback and participation from alumni, WAA members, and donors in designing and developing engagement activities. - Communicate with appropriate stakeholders regarding plans and preparation for events. Qualifications Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. - 2+ years of professional experience in an organization, educational institution or related setting. - Prior professional experience with program planning, event implementation, customer service and/or relationship/volunteer management. - Experience or interest in international relations, cultural awareness or global engagement. - High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) is essential. - Ability to take initiative, demonstrate engagement in projects and meet deadlines. Overview The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA)—the private fundraising and alumni relations organization for the University of Wisconsin–Madison—is seeking a CRM Product Lead to join the Advancement Business Solutions team! The CRM Product Lead provides strategic and functional leadership for WFAA’s Salesforce CRM ecosystem in close partnership with business and technical leaders. This role is accountable for maximizing business value and user impact by defining, prioritizing, and delivering CRM capabilities that advance organizational goals, align with the digital roadmap, and address enterprise‑wide needs through user‑centered, scalable, and outcome‑driven solutions. Serving as the primary bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, the CRM Product Lead translates organizational priorities into clear product requirements and user stories. Working closely with Salesforce Admins, cross‑functional technology teams, and vendor partners in an Agile environment, this role owns functional direction and stakeholder alignment while ensuring solutions are feasible, maintainable, and aligned with platform standards and governance. Essential Functions Produce innovative solutions to marketing problems that combine both written and visual elements in touch points across multiple platforms. - Design and produce original graphic solutions to meet marketing objectives in support of strategic communication priorities. - Produce visual touch points for print, digital and environmental graphics with an emphasis on direct mail, email marketing, publication and social media channels. - Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and creativity - Exhibit a high level of creativity and attention to detail. - Implement pre-press process for production of digital files. Brand Management - Conceive and execute consistently branded campaigns across multiple channels of distribution. - Inform and achieve quality control in the presentation of UW and WFAA brands across platforms. - Coach junior designers to meet brand standards and maintain brand consistency. Other Responsibilities - Plan and direct photo shoots. - Provide direction and work collaboratively with vendor-partners to successfully develop and produce creative materials. - Maintain knowledge of new technology and how it relates to design; continually update design and technical skills. - Maintain high awareness of trends and best practices in graphic design, communications, and marketing industries. - Inform colleagues of developing trends and industry best practices. - Engage with alumni and students to increase brand affinity, engagement, and likelihood of alumni involvement in WFAA activities. - Contribute to organization and content of the photo library. Qualifications Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Art, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or related field. - 5+ years’ graphic design experience in an in-house marketing and/or agency environment. Other Qualifications: - Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) and Microsoft Office. - Animation experience, Figma - Excellent sensibility for design and typography. - Demonstrated creativity, attention to detail and problem solving skills. - Ability to organize, multitask and meet very distinct deadlines while expressing a high degree of creativity. Overview The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA)*, the private fundraising and alumni relations organization for the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking an experienced IT Technical Business Analyst with a strong focus on Salesforce CRM to join our Project Portfolio Planning and Management (P3MO) team. This role partners with business and technical stakeholders to deliver Salesforce‑based solutions through requirements gathering, process analysis, testing/UAT, and reporting. Experience in complex Salesforce environments is highly desired. Salesforce Certified Business Analyst preferred.
