Responsibilities - Build, implement, and operate security and compliance controls across multiple venture applications and supporting systems. - Translate enterprise customer security, data handling, and TPRM requirements into practical technical controls, operational workflows, evidence requirements, and remediation plans. - Create a reusable security control baseline that can be applied across current and future venture applications. - Configure and operate compliance automation platforms such as Vanta, Drata, Secureframe, or similar tools. - Configure evidence integrations across systems such as cloud platforms, GitHub, identity providers, ticketing systems, device management tools, productivity platforms, and security tooling. - Implement identity and access controls, including SSO, MFA, role-based access, least-privilege permissions, access review workflows, and offboarding evidence. - Implement secure SDLC controls, including branch protection, required code reviews, code scanning, dependency scanning, secret scanning, vulnerability management workflows, and release/change management evidence. - Implement or configure cloud security controls, including IAM policies, encryption settings, logging, monitoring, backup settings, network restrictions, and security alerting. - Implement operational security workflows, including vendor review, risk review, change management, policy attestation, incident response evidence, exception tracking, and recurring control reviews. - Maintain a centralized control library mapped to SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria, customer-specific requirements, and relevant frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST CSF, or CIS Controls. - Support SOC 2 readiness activities, including control mapping, evidence requirements, gap tracking, audit preparation, and control verification. - Identify launch-blocking security gaps and close them directly where possible. - Partner with product engineering only where application-specific code, architecture, or deeper infrastructure changes are required. - Write clear technical requirements and acceptance criteria for any security work that must be completed by product engineering. - Review and verify control implementation to ensure controls are actually operating and producing evidence. - Support customer security questionnaires, audits, evidence requests, and enterprise security reviews with accurate technical detail. - Track control gaps, remediation status, launch blockers, and compliance risk for leadership. - Help create a repeatable security implementation playbook that future ventures can inherit as they mature or spin out. You will strengthen delivery by partnering on cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices to improve performance, security, and operational excellence. - Design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs that support product features and integrate with internal and external systems. - Build and optimize data models and queries to ensure consistent performance, reliability, and data integrity. - Contribute to DevOps and cloud infrastructure practices, including deployments, automation, monitoring, and incident response. - Collaborate closely with product and engineering partners to scope work, ship iteratively, and uphold quality through code reviews and testing. Qualifications - Strong backend engineering experience delivering production services with clear ownership for reliability, maintainability, and performance. - Proficiency building services with Node and Typescript, including modern API design and service-to-service communication. - Proficiency building services and automation with Python. - Experience using PostgreSQL in production, including schema design, query optimization, and troubleshooting. - Experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure and automation with Terraform. - Familiarity running and maintaining workloads on Kubernetes. Preferred Skills - Experience working with GCP. - Experience building services with .NET Core. Role Description This is a rare entry point into the world of venture building, as a hands-on, analytical contributor who shapes which bets get made and how they get built. You'll join UP.Labs as a Senior Venture Studio Analyst, embedded directly in the innovation sprint process that sits at the core of our model. Rotating across UP.Labs' portfolio of active and emerging ventures, you’ll work on a range of challenges spanning industrial infrastructure, AI-enabled logistics, mobility, and more, while owning much of the analytical foundation that drives Investment Committee decisions. This is a role for someone who wants to actively contribute to how new businesses are conceived, stress-tested, and funded - driven by your analysis. What You'll Do - Build the financial backbone of new ventures: - Market sizing models (TAM/SAM/SOM) - Unit economics frameworks - 3-year P&Ls - Capital requirement models that go directly to Investment Committees and prospective investors - Investigate emerging technologies and market opportunities: - Rapid landscape analyses that help us decide which problems are worth building companies around - Craft pitch decks and investment narratives that bring new venture concepts to life for corporate partners, IC members, and external investors - Source and engage prospective partners: - Operators, buyers, regulators, and ecosystem participants who validate or challenge our assumptions - Stress-test business models: - Building sensitivity analyses and killer assumption logs that tell us exactly what needs to be true for a venture to work - Contribute to new business development: - Helping shape how UP.Labs pitches and wins new corporate partnerships across sectors - Work across the full venture lifecycle: - From early opportunity identification through POC design, financial modeling, and investor-ready business plan development - Be a generalist who can go deep: - One week you're building a bottoms-up market model, the next you're synthesizing field research into a competitive landscape, the next you're in a room pitching a new business concept to a Fortune 500 leadership team Qualifications - 2–5 years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, private equity, or a high-growth startup or venture environment - Demonstrable financial modeling depth - Strong market sizing and competitive analysis skills - Entrepreneurially minded - A structured, precise communicator - Intellectually curious and industry agnostic - Comfortable being a jack-of-all-trades in a small, high-trust team - Experience in energy, industrials, infrastructure, logistics, or adjacent sectors is a strong plus What Makes This Different Most analyst roles have limitations.
