Role Description The Data Science and Analytics Pharmacist is involved in all aspects of the medication use process at all pharmacy locations within the UCSF Health System. JOB SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the PI, this position supports research in the Upadhyay Laboratory investigating how gut bacterial metabolites regulate lung epithelial mitochondrial function during acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Building on published work demonstrating that Bifidobacterium adolescentis-derived L-lactate increases mitochondrial activity in lung epithelial cells and correlates with ARDS severity (Upadhyay et al., bioRxiv 2025), the SRA 1 will perform bacterial and mammalian cell culture, biochemical assays, and sample preparation under direct supervision of the PI. Specific techniques will include anaerobic bacterial culture, lung epithelial cell culture, Seahorse XF respirometry, RNA/protein isolation, qPCR, and western blotting. Training will be provided for all specialized techniques. Experience with laboratory methods and molecular biology is required. Experience with laboratory methods, computer skills, and molecular and cell biology is required.

The Health Information Coder III is a senior-level inpatient coder with the knowledge and skill set to utilize the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS classification systems to code acute academic, teaching inpatient cases. The skill set extends to knowledge and comprehension of code sequences into Diagnoses-Related Groups on acute academic, teaching inpatient cases. Cases are coded to comply with the official guidelines for coding and reporting, practice standards and code of ethics for HIMS coder. The EH&S Campus Program employs the Departmental Safety Advisor (DSA) concept to coordinate safety activities with each department on campus. The DSA works closely with the department, principal investigators, laboratory supervisors, and managers to ensure compliance with safety regulations. The DSA monitors activities involving the use of all hazardous materials to ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to. Also, the DSA is available for consultation in the design of experiments and facilities as regards environmental health and safety issues and requirements. The DSA is also responsible for ensuring a safe work environment for administrative departments and facilities management. This includes but is not limited to fire and life safety, ergonomics, injury prevention, and accident investigations.
