Role Description The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for ensuring the Company’s ongoing compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. The incumbent is responsible for analyzing, researching, and resolving issues and addressing complex tax inquiries. - Perform weekly audits of employee transfers and new hires to review employee taxes are set up properly and work with corresponding parties to resolve any issues. - Update State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rates in Workday and Smart Compliance for audit and compliance purposes. - Review and update Federal Exempt Employees. - Process IRS Lock-in Letters ensuring employee tax profiles comply with IRS directives. - Generate weekly report that identifies employees with no SUI. - Run weekly payroll audits to review FICA tax withholding and make necessary updates to ensure accurate calculation and withholding of FICA taxes. - Prepare specialized reports for employees covered by federal regulations specific to railroad employment. - Review and resolve level 1 payroll tax ServiceNow tickets. - Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications - Knowledge of payroll tax laws including registering and maintaining state payroll tax accounts. - Solid understanding of the payroll lifecycle, amendments and taxable wages. - Systems oriented including Microsoft Excel skills, experience with ADP Smart Compliance and Workday knowledge. - Strong organizational, communication and customer service skills. - Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Demonstrates strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze and problem solve in a team environment. - Ability to work independently with little or no supervision. - Experience with multi-state payroll taxes. - Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) - preferred. Requirements - 2 - 4 years of experience handling multi-state payroll tax and W2 filings. - The pay range for this role is $62,100 - $85,350 depending on experience. - This is a remote role supporting the Central Region of the US. - Republic Services is not able to provide sponsorship for this role. Role Description With general direction, utilizing an understanding of accounting principles, the Area Accountant performs accounting activities to record, analyze and monitor financial information. The incumbent prepares financial reports in a manner that ensures accuracy and compliance with company accounting policies. The Area Accountant may act as a resource for accounting and general administrative staff and is responsible for a broad array of accounting duties. - Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare journal entries and document business transactions. - Prepares monthly and quarterly operational performance reports. - Assists the Area Controller in ensuring there are proper internal controls in place including compliance with company policies and procedures, Sarbanes Oxley and all other statutory requirements. - Reconciles balance sheet accounts and statistical data and fully analyses financial statements in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Company policy. - May assist the Area Controller in the management of accounting personnel. - May provide direction to the different accounting functional areas (invoice processing, billing, cash receipts, work order processing, credit analysis, receivable collections, month-end close, journal entries, statistical data, and payroll). - Supports the Area Controller during the annual budget and interim forecasting process and assists with analytical review. - Supports the accounting aspects of capital expenditures, transfers and retirements. - Assists with periodic financial audits including internal audits, external audits and peer reviews. - Provides support and responds to information requests from corporate (accounting, tax, treasury, IT, HR, sales, environmental compliance, legal, etc.) as well as region and area field financial management as required. - Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent. Qualifications - Accounting experience. - A thorough knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). - Intermediate MS Excel skills. - Demonstrated initiative to thoughtfully and fully research and follow up on non-standard situations to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. - Effective and professional interpersonal communication across various levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors. - Strong analytical skills. - Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. - Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision. - Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. - Ability to work effectively, cooperatively and efficiently within a team environment. - Experience with general ledger software and other programs consistently used in the industry. - Experience with Oracle accounting software and other programs consistently used in the industry. Requirements - The pay range for this position is $70,304.00 to $85,350.00 which reflects the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality in which you are hired.
