• Lead our security and privacy efforts and protect the students, educators, and partners who use the platform. • Drive the security engineering, compliance, and privacy programs forward with end-to-end ownership of risk and customer assurance. • Promote effective and thoughtful decision making to reduce uncertainty and increase organizational velocity. • Stand up SIEM and detection engineering pipelines to alert on and investigate anomalies before they turn into incidents. • Standardize and enforce RBAC on critical systems, including non-human and AI agent identities. • Add LLM-assisted and highly contextual code analysis to security-relevant pull requests, addressing tenant isolation and prompt injection threats. • Design data de-identification and isolation approaches for privacy-by-design use cases. • Keep an up-to-date risk register and security roadmap, communicating clearly through regular updates. • Support engineering team with secure design reviews that provide actionable and tradeoff-informed recommendations. • Equip customer-facing teams with top-notch trust center content, including security knowledge bases and customer assurance collateral. • Lead SOC 2 compliance operations and audits to reduce overhead on engineering and support teams. • Lead the incident response function to ensure rapid recovery capabilities. • Partner with Trust and Safety on child safety and responsible AI deployments. • Work cross-functionally to build partnerships instead of roadblocks.

Role Description Playlab seeks a full-time, Washington-based Learning Partner to anchor the Washington AI Innovation Ecosystem — a statewide initiative, supported by the Gates Foundation and anchored by Gonzaga University, that partners with roughly ten diverse Washington schools and districts and funds all nine of Washington's Educational Service Districts (ESDs) as active recruiters and participants. As Playlab's go-to person in Washington, you will: - Serve as Playlab's on-the-ground lead in Washington — the day-to-day relationship owner for partner schools, districts, Gonzaga, and the nine ESDs. - Recruit a diverse cohort of ~10 school and district partners across eastern and western Washington, and support the application, review, and selection process alongside Gonzaga and the ESDs. - Design and deliver high-quality professional learning — school-based trainings, PLCs, and coaching that build educator capacity in both AI literacy and app-building with Playlab. - Coach and co-design with educators and school teams, helping them create AI tools and learning experiences aligned to their pedagogy, curricula, and context. - Support strategic AI adoption at the system level, helping school and district leaders identify high-leverage entry points for AI across teaching, learning, and operations. - Help plan and facilitate the three in-person convenings at Gonzaga (Launch, Showcase, and Capstone), and support partners through the AI Innovation Index pre/mid/post assessment. - Partner with the ESDs so that what works in cohort schools is disseminated to the districts they serve across the state. - Bring insights from the field back to the Playlab team to improve learning resources, platform features, and partnership strategy. Qualifications - Bring deep, current statewide knowledge of and experience in Washington's education landscape — spanning eastern and western Washington — with strong existing relationships across schools and districts, institutions of higher education, and education nonprofits. (Required) - School leadership and teaching experience. (Required) - Have experience working in or with K–12 schools in Washington, and care deeply about equity, innovation, and educator empowerment. - Are a skilled facilitator who knows how to lead engaging, inclusive, outcomes-driven adult learning. - Are passionate about helping educators and students not only use AI, but understand it, critique it, and create with it. - Have coached educators or supported school teams in implementing new instructional tools or practices. - Are a relationship-builder who can navigate complex school systems and build trust across diverse communities and regions of the state. - Are flexible, strategic, and thrive in fast-paced, mission-driven work. - Are confident using and explaining AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, or other LLM-powered applications, and understand how to align them with instructional values. Requirements - Existing relationships with Washington ESDs, Gonzaga University, or statewide education networks and nonprofits. - Experience leading large-scale instructional-technology or professional-development initiatives. - Familiarity with Playlab or similar AI-literacy tools and platforms. - Experience supporting both student- and adult-facing AI initiatives. - Bilingual (especially Spanish/English). • Identify high leverage opportunities for creating AI apps that enhance math teaching and learning • Build bespoke math apps on Playlab for and with partner organizations • Co-design with math educators through hands-on coaching and design sprints • Set the bar for math AI tools across the platform • Mentor Learning Engineers on math-adjacent work • Run high-trust coaching through various support methods • Push the boundaries of what's possible in math apps • Support student-facing math building initiatives • Bring field insights back to Playlab's product and engineering teams

• Support 2 to 3 Lab Schools. • Hold the relationship with each school's founding team across the 24-month partnership, with monthly leader check-ins, weekly build sessions, and on-call support through launch. • Partner With the Senior LE in Your Region. • Work alongside the Senior Learning Engineer anchoring the cohort to deliver consistent technical support across your assigned schools and contribute to phase-by-phase programming. • Build Bespoke AI Tools alongside teachers and leaders, including custom assessment tools, lesson planners, student-facing builders, and family communication apps tuned to each school's pedagogy. • Contribute to the Open-Source Playbook. • Document builds, capture patterns from your schools, and feed insights into the playbook that ships at month 24 for the field. • Run Coaching Sessions through drop-in office hours, async build support, and 1:1 video coaching with builders and leaders at your schools. • Co-Facilitate Quarterly Convenings. • Three days every quarter for 24 months, supporting build sessions and hosting office hours alongside the broader Lab Schools team. • Grow Your Craft through regular practice with senior LEs, build reviews, and ongoing mentorship from the Head of Learning Engineering. • Contribute Beyond the Cohort as Needs Arise. • Step into adjacent partnerships, cross-team initiatives, or new bets that benefit from LE craft. We'll set expectations together so the lab schools work always stays the anchor, while leaving room for the kind of flexibility a small, ambitious team requires. • Bring Field Insights Back to Playlab's product, engineering, and research teams to shape platform features and shared playbooks.

• Anchor 4 to 5 Lab Schools. • Co-Steward the Cohort With the Lab Schools Learning Partner. • Build Bespoke AI Tools alongside teachers and leaders, including custom assessment tools, knowledge-graphed lesson planners, student-facing builders, and family communication apps tuned to each school's pedagogy. • Mentor Embedded Regional LEs anchored in NYC, Memphis, Austin, the DMV, and Tempe, sharpening their craft and helping them grow into senior practitioners. • Hold the Rubric for Lab Schools Builds. • Run High-Trust Coaching through drop-in sessions, async build support, and 1:1 video coaching with the most advanced builders and leaders across the network. • Co-Facilitate Quarterly Convenings. • Contribute Beyond the Cohort as Needs Arise. • Bring Field Insights Back to Playlab's product, engineering, and research teams to shape platform features and shared playbooks.

• Run the engineering team day-to-day — 1:1s, career development conversations that actually change how people work • Support weekly tactical coordination across projects • Partner with the CTO on technical strategy, architecture decisions, and the engineering roadmap • Collaborate with the Head of ML to align platform and ML engineering efforts • Coach engineers through pairing, code reviews, and system design discussions • Diagnose what each engineer needs • Introduce and refine AI-assisted engineering practices across the team's workflows • Shape engineering culture and processes for a growing remote-first team • Help level up the leadership team of the company • Work cross-functionally with product, design, research, and education teams • Help double the engineering team from ~10 to 20 this year — hiring, onboarding, and building the structures that let a larger team stay fast and coherent

• Engage in rapid prototyping and planning specific to contexts in a cohort of up to 20 leadership teams. • Participate in monthly strategy calls and quarterly in-person intensives. • Interrogate fundamental beliefs about education's structure. • Leverage Playlab's platform to create custom AI tools that enhance human connectivity within education.

• Design a domain model that enables both institutions (districts, schools, ministries) and individuals (teachers, coaches) to use Playlab successfully • Clarify how users, organizations, apps, and permissions relate to each other as Playlab scales • Ensure the model supports Playlab's current partnerships while creating flexibility for future growth • Specify the controls that give institutions visibility and confidence: user management, app distribution, usage reporting, and appropriate content governance • Balance institutional needs with Playlab's commitment to educator agency—administrators need oversight without locking down what makes Playlab powerful • Work with the partnerships team to prioritize based on what's actually blocking deployments • Define requirements for getting roster data into and out of Playlab at scale—supporting districts and organizations with varied SIS configurations • Specify integration patterns that work across the fragmented K-12 data landscape (Clever, ClassLink, OneRoster, custom exports) • Design flows that reduce manual work for IT administrators and partnership teams

• Ship features across the full stack - from React/Remix frontend to Node.js backend • Move fast to learn what works - ship experiments quickly and iterate based on feedback • Be curious - learn and apply web technologies and best practices as you build • Work collaboratively with designers, other engineers, and product to build features users need • Write tests and documentation for your code • Participate actively in code reviews and learn from the team
