Role Description The National Parks Conservation Association is seeking a multidisciplinary design intern to help communicate core values, impact of work, advocacy goals, and importance of our national parks. The design intern will have the opportunity to work within the Communications department, creating materials that enhance NPCA’s brand awareness. Other materials may include: - Outreach and fundraising materials - Events collateral - Regional support pieces - Brand standardized resources - Graphics for store products As a valued member of the team, the design intern will support NPCA’s visual brand by creating fresh, engaging designs for internal clients while upholding brand standards. They will gain experience in communications strategy, learn how to develop visuals that advance a nonprofit mission, and build skills for working in a remote environment. The Design Intern will complete the internship with real-world pieces for their portfolio. Qualifications - Current or recent college graduate (within one year of graduation) pursuing a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field - A portfolio showcasing design skills and range of projects is required. - Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent design software. (Comfort working in Microsoft Office) - Ability to work on Mac or PC platforms. - Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout composition. - A creative mindset with the ability to think outside the box and offer innovative design solutions. - Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. - Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team environment. - Ability to manage time and priorities effectively. Requirements - Collaborate with internal departments (Development / Regions / Communications) to create visually appealing designs for various projects, including but not limited to digital assets, outreach and fundraising materials, events collateral, regional support pieces, brand standardized resources, ongoing campaigns. - Design graphic for merchandise in the NPCA online store - Help build out Branding Toolkit for internal and external use. - Develop and refine design concepts based on project briefs, incorporating feedback from team members to achieve the desired outcome. - Participate in brainstorming sessions to contribute creative input to campaigns and projects. - Other visual brand tasks as assigned. Role Description National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) has an exciting opportunity for a Western Indigenous Engagement Fellow to join our Regional Programs. Location: Montana Work Status: Full-time; Term 12-month position Salary: $48,000 (Grade K) Primary Purpose of the Position: - Collaborate on program areas with leaders from NPCA, Salish Kootenai College, Blackfeet Community College, Tribal partners, and the National Park Service. - Support in-person and remote connections to Tribal and conservation partners in the Northern Rockies region. - Participate in and help facilitate gatherings and meetings focused on Indigenous engagement and representation. - Support the Western Indigenous Engagement Fellowship Program (WIEFP) by helping NPCA evaluate, improve, and promote the program. - Assist Program Manager and Senior Fellow with donor and foundation support as needed. - Contribute to NPCA’s Northern Rockies team and support organizational learning and growth. Essential Functions: - Western Indigenous Engagement Fellowship Program: Coordinate with key staff to advance and integrate priority goals for the WIEFP. The first month will focus on onboarding and developing relationships with NPCA staff and partners. - Professional Development: Dedicated time to explore professional development and build connections through trainings, conferences, and field experiences. Other: Respect employees regardless of their position or background. Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems. Attend various meetings and assist in evaluation of reports and decisions. Minimum Work Schedule: 32-hour work week, flexible hours scheduled between 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Travel: Regional travel for meetings, events, and outreach is occasionally required. Role Description NPCA’s mission is to protect and enhance the National Park System (NPS) for present and future generations, while recognizing that park lands are Native lands that have been stewarded by Indigenous peoples since time immemorial. NPCA is committed to being a responsible partner to Tribal Nations and a leader in culturally informed advocacy, grounded in meaningful Tribal engagement to protect our parks and the people, places, and histories that define them. NPCA recognizes Tribal Nations as sovereign governments with whom the United States holds government-to-government relationships. As the voice of the parks, NPCA is uniquely positioned to advocate alongside Tribal interest and public land protection; ensuring the National Parks System and public land management is inclusive, upholds treaty-reserved rights and trust responsibilities. Through its Indigenous Engagement Team, NPCA strengthens its capacity to support Native-led stewardship, uphold Tribal sovereignty, and promote accountability, ensuring that park management uplifts and honors the original caretakers of these lands. The Four Corners Tribal Program Manager develops and leads strategies that advance NPCA’s Tribal engagement goals along with the Southwest Region’s conservation goals by collaboratively building campaigns and initiatives that strengthen relationships between Southwest Indigenous Tribes, the national parks community, and relevant agencies. This position serves as a liaison between NPCA and Tribes with cultural, ancestral, and historical ties to the Four Corners Region. The Tribal Program Manager will lead relationship-building, coordination, and engagement with Tribes and communities to promote Indigenous-led land protection efforts and stewardship practices that will ensure that collaborative land management reflects Tribal priorities and values. The Four Corners Tribal Program Manager also advises other Southwest Regional Program staff on advocating for both state- and federally-recognized Tribal land stewardship and on integrating Indigenous knowledge into the management of national parks and public lands. Additionally, the Tribal Program Manager will provide thought leadership and technical assistance to NPCA’s Indigenous Engagement Team to help develop internal policies and best practices for departments across the organization. Qualifications - 4-5 years of relevant work and/or lived experience - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred. - Background and familiarity with conservation, national park, and public land management issues preferred. - 2-3 years of experience partnering with Native Tribes or Indigenous organizations, preferably in the Southwest region. - Proven track record of working with a variety of individuals and organizations to build effective coalitions across political and cultural boundaries. - Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects and handle details. - Creative and strategic thinking skills to help design and implement effective programs and campaigns. - Comfort and ability to be independently productive and stay connected to other staff remotely while in a solo workplace environment. - Excellent written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation abilities. - Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat) and comfort with online communications and systems. - Commitment to NPCA’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Statement of Intentions. Role Description The Southeast Clean Air Data Intern will work directly with NPCA’s Southeast Regional Director and the Senior Air and Climate Manager on data and research projects that are crucial to our work to protect air quality in national parks through the second and third rounds of the Regional Haze Rule. The intern will support updating our data sets and corresponding materials to inform our work and strategic direction. The intern will learn about the intricacies of the National Emissions Inventory datasets and become familiar with the air pollution sources and the level of emissions in the country as they affect national parks. A portion of the intern’s work will focus specifically on regions of the U.S., like the Southeast, that are experiencing rapid increases in air pollution as old coal plants are kept online to meet new, rapid growth in energy demand from AI and data centers. The intern will help analyze this data and produce usable materials and information for NPCA’s campaigns to protect air quality in parks. Location: Remote Schedule: Part-time; up to 20 hours per week Compensation: $23.00-$26.00/hour Tangible deliverables that will be achieved: - Development and organization of a nationwide air pollution emissions dataset for point sources using the most recent National Emissions Inventory (NEI 2023). - Creation of easily accessible query systems to allow access to specific emissions data as needed. - Formatting the data for the calculation of the impact of each pollution source on national parks and wilderness areas using the Q/d metric. - Updates to the NPCA’s interactive map with new Q/d data. - Analysis of the growth of energy demand and corresponding air pollution increases from park-harming sources in various regions of the U.S., including the Southeast. - Preparation of an analysis for NPCA’s Southeast region, including: - Maps - Identification of industrial sources impacting Class I areas in the Southeast region - Rankings of the worst polluting sources and the most impacted Class I areas in the Southeast region Qualifications - Graduate student (within one year of graduation) with STEM Discipline - Data processing in Microsoft Excel, R, or Python - ArcGIS Desktop/Pro and ArcGIS Online - Writing skills Requirements Physical Effort and Dexterity: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is typically required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear.
