Morningstar’s Editorial team plays a crucial role in supporting this mission. We create engaging digital and print content to inform investors and help them meet their financial goals. We are looking for a strong writer and editor to join our publications team. This person will be as comfortable crunching investment data as they are reviewing final proofs for a print magazine. About the role: In this role, you will work with a cross-disciplinary team of editors, research analysts, portfolio managers, and investment specialists to support our publications and lead content development for our monthly stock- and dividends-strategy print newsletters. In this role, you will crunch investing data, master all stages of the publication-production process, edit content written by experienced portfolio managers, researchers and analysts, and write interesting stock-focused articles for subscribers. You will ensure our content is jargon-free, clearly written, and action-oriented. This position is based in our Chicago office. At present, we process over 40 billion messages per day and with data volumes significantly increasing year-on-year, you can imagine how this needs a high level of engineering skill to keep it under control. You will need to work in an agile, multi-functional team of developers and testers to build and maintain our exchange connectivity components. You'll need to be happy working in short cycles, with frequent deliveries while improving the overall quality of the development process. Key Responsibilities Core Analytical Work - Conduct RMBS transaction analysis, including assessment of collateral characteristics, deal structures, credit enhancement levels, and legal frameworks. - Identify and focus on key credit issues during the new‑issue rating process. - Review and evaluate banker cash‑flow model outputs, providing feedback on structural assumptions. Committee & Internal Collaboration - Serve as a co‑lead or back‑up analyst on selected transactions. - Present analytical findings to rating committees with clarity and confidence. - Collaborate with senior analysts to ensure accurate and consistent application of criteria. Modeling & Methodology - Contribute to the enhancement of structured finance criteria, models, and analytical tools. - Perform sensitivities, transaction comparisons, and stress‑testing tasks under the guidance of senior team members. Research & Publications - Produce and publish market updates, newsletters, or concise commentary with minimal supervision. External Engagement - Participate in meetings with bankers, issuers, investors, and other market participants to discuss transaction details and analytical considerations. - Represent the team professionally in all client‑facing interactions. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, math, engineering, computer science, or a related field. - 2+ years of experience in structured finance, securitization, banking, mortgage finance, or a relevant analytical role. - Strong analytical and quantitative abilities, with excellent attention to detail. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard Office applications. - Organized, deadline‑driven, and comfortable managing multiple priorities. - Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly.
