Finance Lead
MoonshotSocial enterprise working to end online harms, applying evidence, ethics and human rights.
Moonshot is the “Robinhood for DeFi”—an iOS and Android app that lets anyone trade cryptocurrencies on-chain through a user-friendly interface. Since our launch in July 2024, we’ve attracted 2M+ users. Our mission: Make moonshots possible for everyone. Our vision: Make a world where life-changing financial outcomes are within everyone's reach. Everyone on our team is both a decision-maker and an implementer—united by a sense of urgency and driven by the conviction that our work can transform global finance. If you thrive on curiosity, welcome tough challenges, and aspire to leave a meaningful mark on the world, Moonshot is the place for you. You’ll run toward the hardest problems alongside high-caliber teammates who consistently push each other to excel and who share your dedication to shaping the future of decentralized finance. This role is full-time, preferably located in NYC. Open to remote for the right candidate. The Opportunity Moonshot is at an inflection point. We've built one of the fastest-growing consumer DeFi products in the world—and now we need a finance leader who is embedded in the business, not sitting on the sideline. As our Head of Finance, you'll be our first dedicated finance hire, owning the full financial function: from daily operations and onchain accounting to budgeting, forecasting, board reporting, and product-level financial strategy. This is not a back-office role. You'll sit in the room where decisions are made, translating financial reality into strategic clarity for the team and our investors. You'll build the systems, processes, and discipline that will carry Moonshot to the next stage of growth. What you’ll be doing (i.e. job duties): - Own all day-to-day financial operations: bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, month-end close, and reconciliation across fiat and digital asset accounts - Build and maintain rolling budgets, financial models, and forecasts using tools like Runway and QuickBooks — keeping the team oriented around real numbers in real time - Prepare and deliver board-level financial packages; present clearly and confidently to investors and leadership - Serve as a financial business partner to Product, Growth, and Engineering — scoping features, evaluating unit economics, and pressure-testing spend decisions before they're made - Own onchain accounting: manage digital asset treasury activity, track protocol revenue, and ensure accurate treatment of crypto assets across the balance sheet - Evaluate and implement the right financial tech stack as we scale — you'll have opinions on what good tooling looks like at this stage, and the ownership to act on them - Partner with legal and external accountants on tax planning, entity structuring, and compliance as the business grows - Identify cost efficiency opportunities and bring financial discipline across the org What we look for in you (i.e. job requirements): - 6–8+ years of finance or accounting experience, including meaningful time at a high-growth startup or crypto-native company - Genuinely crypto-native: you understand onchain accounting, digital asset treatment, token flows, and DeFi protocol mechanics — not just in theory but in practice - Hands-on with financial planning tools: Runway, QuickBooks, and ideally crypto-specific accounting platforms (e.g., Bitwave, Tres Finance, Ledgible) - Strong financial modeling skills — you can build a three-statement model from scratch, run scenario analysis, and communicate the story behind the numbers - Owns the analytics layer of finance: builds and manages dashboards and reporting infrastructure (e.g., in Looker, Mode, Metabase, Tableau, or similar), ensures data integrity across finance, growth, and product systems, and enables the team to self-serve critical metrics - Experience preparing and delivering board-level financial reporting - A builder mindset: you're energized by creating structure where none exists and thrive without a playbook - Embedded by nature — you're at your best when you're close to the product and the team, not siloed or dependent on weekly syncs - Direct communicator who can translate financial complexity for non-finance stakeholders - US-based, with availability during Eastern working hours Nice to haves: - CPA or CFA designation - Prior experience at a consumer crypto, DeFi, or fintech company - Familiarity with Solana ecosystem and SPL token accounting - Experience with onchain analytics tools (Dune, Nansen, Flipside) - Background supporting a fundraise, including investor due diligence - SQL proficiency or comfort working with data-heavy financial environments
• Own core growth metrics across the funnel (sign-ups, activation, first trade, retention, reactivation, LTV, churn). • Design, prioritize, and run A/B tests and experiments across onboarding, discovery, trading flows, notifications, and pricing/fee surfaces. • Own our product analytics stack (PostHog) for growth: events, properties, funnels, cohorts, and dashboards that track user behavior and lifecycle KPIs. • Own ad campaigns and journeys (email, push, in-app, inbox) that drive activation and retention. • Deliver weekly growth reports for leadership and the broader company, highlighting performance, learnings, and next bets. • Segment our users into cohorts and personas, and combine quantitative analysis with user interviews to develop a deep understanding of different trader types. • Collaborate with Mobile and Platform Engineering on growth-focused features (referrals, incentives, streaks, nudges, social features, win-back experiences). • Establish growth processes and rituals: experiment templates, guardrails, success metrics, documentation, and cross-functional alignment. • Ensure every new feature has clear instrumentation, baselines, and success metrics before launch.
