Role Description This is not a traditional product engineering role. It is a deeply business-embedded engineering position at the intersection of Finance, Engineering, and Operations. The hire will build the systems and instrumentation that make unit economics visible, trustworthy, and actionable - working in close partnership with Finance, Operations, and Engineering leadership rather than from a standard product roadmap. Ideal for a Rails engineer who wants to apply strong technical skills to real operational problems and who is motivated by business impact, not just feature delivery. Responsibilities - Own full-stack delivery from UI to backend services, including database tuning and performance. - Build new features start to finish - architecture design, coding, automated testing, and production support. - Work closely with teammates in a fast-paced, agile environment across pods and the broader Engineering org. - Tackle technical issues throughout the stack and contribute to shared documentation. - Contribute to coding standards, tech debt refinement, and system security monitoring. - Participate in interviewing and onboarding new team members. - Participate in on-call support rotation (team-based, paired). Qualifications - Strong experience with Ruby on Rails. - System design experience focused on incremental, scalable, resilient architecture. - Comfortable across the stack - backend services, databases, and light frontend. - Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue.js). - SQL database experience (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite). - Deployment experience on Heroku, AWS, or similar. - 5+ years of hands-on development experience. - Comfort with financial concepts: margins, COGS, pricing, revenue recognition, or unit economics. - Experience building systems where correctness, auditability, and explainability matter. - Ability to work with non-technical stakeholders and translate ambiguous business questions into concrete technical work. - Comfortable with ambiguity - shaping the problem, not just executing against a spec. Bonus - Deep Ruby on Rails and RSpec expertise. - Postgres database administration experience. - Shipped code supporting tens of thousands of users including enterprise customers. - Operations/SRE experience including networking, caching, database, and performance triage. - Experience in fundraising, crowdfunding, fintech, or payments products. - Startup environment experience. - Experience building internal tools for Finance or Operations teams.

Role Description Midwestern is building a contractor talent network that gives clients fast access to vetted, high-caliber operators. The talent sourcer is the front door of that network. In this role, you partner closely with Recruiting Leads to find, engage, and qualify candidates for both active client searches and pipeline development. You will spend most of your time identifying talent, running outreach, coordinating interviews, and keeping the pipeline strong as our roster and client needs evolve. This is a builder role on a growing team. The work starts with sourcing and coordination and is designed to expand into preliminary candidate interviews and NDA management as you ramp. What You'll Do - Candidate sourcing and identification - Partner with Recruiting Leads to understand role requirements, candidate profiles, and client expectations. - Identify qualified candidates using a variety of sourcing methods, including our Applicant Tracking System, online platforms, and third-party sourcing tools. - Conduct targeted searches using advanced techniques such as Boolean search to uncover top talent. - Review candidate profiles, skills, and professional histories to assess alignment with role criteria. - Outreach and engagement - Develop and execute strategic outreach campaigns to engage prospective candidates. - Initiate and maintain communication with candidates, presenting opportunities and assessing initial interest. - Build and nurture relationships with talent to maintain a strong and active pipeline. - Recruitment coordination - Schedule and coordinate meetings between candidates and Recruiting Leads. - Act as the liaison between candidates and recruiters, ensuring clear and timely communication on next steps. - Support a smooth and positive candidate experience throughout the early stages of the hiring process. - Talent pipeline development - Source candidates to support the growth and diversification of the contractor talent network. - Align candidate skill sets with evolving market demands and client needs. - Continuously refine sourcing strategies based on feedback and hiring trends. Where This Role Is Going - Conducting preliminary candidate interviews to evaluate experience, communication style, and alignment with client expectations and values. - Facilitating the distribution and collection of Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) for candidates engaged in active opportunities or pipeline development. Qualifications - Experience sourcing candidates in a recruiting, staffing, or talent acquisition setting — agency, in-house, or contractor network. - Working knowledge of ATS platforms and sourcing tools, with comfort running Boolean and other advanced search techniques. - Strong written communication — your outreach is clear, specific, and gets responses. - Highly organized; can run multiple searches in parallel without dropping threads. - Bias toward action and follow-through — candidates and recruiters never wonder where things stand. - Curiosity about the industries and skill sets we hire for, with a willingness to learn what "good" looks like for each. Nice to Have - Experience sourcing for contractor, freelance, or fractional talent networks. - Familiarity with NDA workflows and basic candidate compliance steps. - Exposure to client-facing recruiting or staffing environments. How We Work Midwestern is direct, low-ego, and high-ownership. We move quickly, we name things plainly, and we trust people to run their lane. The recruiting team is small enough that what you build is immediately visible — and immediately useful.
