Role Description We are recruiting a Strategic Sales Manager to deliver sustainable revenue growth through the end‑to‑end ownership of high‑value national and large regional sales opportunities across public and private sector clients. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, this role is responsible for developing and converting a self‑generated pipeline of complex new business opportunities, leading major tenders, and supporting growth within existing strategic accounts through formal tender activity and significant contract expansions. The role operates with a high level of commercial ownership and accountability, while working within established sales governance and approval frameworks. What the role involves - Strategic sales and pipeline ownership - Developing, owning, and managing a personal pipeline of high‑value national and large regional new business opportunities - Identifying and pursuing opportunities aligned to strategic growth sectors and target clients - Qualifying opportunities and maintaining accurate pipeline forecasting and CRM data - Bid leadership and deal conversion - Leading the full sales process for complex and high‑value tenders, including bid strategy, coordination, submissions, clarifications, and negotiations - Acting as bid lead for major public and private sector procurement exercises - Providing commercial input into pricing, margins, and contract structures in line with approval thresholds - Taking accountability for the quality, competitiveness, and timeliness of submissions - Strategic account growth support - Working with Account Managers to support: - Retentions and formal re‑tenders - Large‑scale renewals - Material contract growth or expansion requiring competitive procurement - Leading tender and bid activity linked to existing strategic accounts, without responsibility for day‑to‑day account management - Governance, performance and improvement - Ensuring compliance with sales governance, approval processes, CRM standards, and data integrity requirements - Delivering against agreed revenue and conversion targets - Developing sales capability through effective use of CRM insight and AI‑enabled tools - Stakeholder engagement - Representing Vergo with senior client stakeholders, internal teams, and external partners - Working with operational, finance, and QHSE teams to ensure solutions are deliverable, compliant, and commercially sound Qualifications - Experience in a senior B2B sales role securing high‑value or multi‑site contracts - Proven track record in new business development and tender‑led sales - Experience leading complex and competitive tender processes - Experience working with account management teams on renewals or re‑procurements Desirable experience - Experience in facilities management, pest control, environmental services, or similar regulated service sectors - Experience of national contracts or framework‑based procurement Essential skills - Strong commercial judgement with the ability to assess value, margin, and risk - Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including proposal development and presentations - Ability to work autonomously with accountability for personal performance - Confident senior‑level stakeholder engagement - Disciplined use of CRM systems for pipeline and forecasting - Proficient in Microsoft Office and confident adopting digital and AI‑enabled tools Desirable - Degree, HND, or equivalent in a relevant discipline - Formal sales training (e.g. SPIN, Miller Heiman, Challenger) - Understanding of public sector procurement processes - Ability to travel and work additional hours as required - Full UK driving licence Benefits - 25 days annual leave plus public holidays - Healthcare cash plan (Medicash) - Employee Assistance Programme, including access to a 24/7 GP and prescription service - Employee wellness programmes - Life assurance - Employee referral programme - Company Car Location National role, working from home with ad‑hoc travel throughout the UK as required.
