We are transforming how civics is taught by providing equity-rooted, real-world civic education, which helps students understand exactly how governments function and how they can make a difference in the system. Through hands-on civic education, legislative advocacy and coalition building, and youth leadership development, we teach young people how to have a voice and become active citizens in their communities. JOB DESCRIPTION We are looking for a skilled and passionate Social Media Manager to join our diverse and inclusive team. This part-time role (20 hours per week) is essential for increasing Generation Citizen's overall social media presence and executing our broader communications strategy. Reporting to the Associate Director of Communications in our Civic Voice and Policy Team, you will be the hands-on force behind our digital channels, ensuring our message informs, mobilizes, and grows our audience. While the Associate Director focuses on high-level strategy and overseeing the department's vision, you will own the day-to-day execution, content creation, and digital community engagement that brings that vision to life. This role requires a storyteller with a keen eye for design and a deep understanding of how to drive action through digital media. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Social Media Management & Execution 50% - Optimize and schedule posts, shares, and stories via a social media management platform and monthly content calendars. - Curate GC’s digital community by monitoring and responding to comments, mentions, and direct messages in alignment with established guidelines. - Identify, follow, amplify, and engage in relevant conversations across platforms to ensure Generation Citizen is out in front and relevant in digital spaces. - Monitor and leverage social media trends consistent with our organizational voice and branding to keep our digital presence fresh and impactful. - Manage day-to-day operations of social media platforms and serve as the primary point of contact for software vendors and external consultants to ensure smooth execution of digital tools. Content Creation & Design 35% - Develop and implement engaging, evidence-based social media campaigns or strategies across various platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Instagram Threads, LinkedIn) to grow our audiences and encourage actions aligned with our strategic plan goals. - Collaborate with the Associate Director, Communications to implement communications strategy for monthly communications priorities and campaign themes. - Draft compelling social media copy that supports advocacy and partnership goals. - Curate content to present a cohesive and compelling organizational identity, ensuring written and visual content work together to inspire our external community. - Lay out social media tiles and create animations, carousels, and videos to drive maximum content reach and in-depth engagement with GC’s social media accounts. - Drive digital action through optimized content, including organic, boosted, and paid posts. Campaign Support & Analytics 15% - Support the execution of social media and digital campaigns, both organic and paid. - Track analytics and performance metrics and prepare summaries to inform ongoing improvements, helping to evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies on regional and national teams - Assist with outreach and coordination with organic influencers and partners as directed. - Liaise with graphic design, production, and software vendors and consultants as needed.. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS - Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, or digital media, preferably within a non-profit environment. - Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, particularly for social media and digital platforms. - Proficiency in content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut) and social media management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite). - Experience with media relations, digital marketing, and content creation. - Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines. - A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and an ability to authentically represent the communities we serve.
