• Coordinate and distribute Ballotpedia’s daily, weekly, and monthly email newsletters. • Support targeted email communications to specific audiences, such as candidates, educators, local organizations, and research clients. • Maintain newsletter templates, landing pages, and email signup forms. • Coordinate publishing timelines, including special editions and holiday schedules. • Ensure accuracy, formatting, and quality control across all outgoing email communications. • Monitor and respond to inquiries sent to Ballotpedia’s public editorial inbox. • Provide helpful responses to reader and candidate questions or route inquiries to the appropriate internal teams. • Identify and report errors or issues raised by readers and coordinate follow-up as needed. • Assist with gathering and reporting key email performance metrics. • Support team workflows and project coordination using communication and project management tools. • Help lead recurring team coordination meetings and publishing workflows. • Contribute to additional Communications team projects, including proofreading, document review, presentation preparation, and content support.

The Position Ballotpedia is seeking a detail-oriented, 100% remote Communications Associate, Email Marketing & Newsletter Publishing, to support the delivery and growth of our email newsletter and email marketing programs. The Communication Associate coordinates the distribution of Ballotpedia newsletters and email content and serves as the final quality checkpoint before newsletter and email content reaches readers, and plays a key role in supporting Ballotpedia’s broader email marketing efforts. In addition, this role supports Ballotpedia with reader and candidate inquiries received through Ballotpedia’s public inbox and collaborates closely with members of the Communications team on special projects. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a process-driven environment and takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality communications. The role is well-suited for a professional looking to take their career in email marketing and newsletters to the next level while working as part of a multidisciplinary communications team. Experience with content publishing tools, social media platforms, or basic multimedia editing. - Interest in or experience using AI tools to increase productivity. Environment The Communications Associate, Email Marketing & Newsletter Publishing, will work remotely from their home location. All Ballotpedia staff work remotely. To join Ballotpedia, you must have a computer with Internet access. Ballotpedia uses the Google Suite (Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, and more), Slack, and Asana to accomplish our goals. Some familiarity with the Google Suite, Slack, and Asana is helpful. Ballotpedia has a flexible work environment, BP Flex, in which every employee enjoys unlimited vacation and flexibility in scheduling. Each employee will be oriented to the principles of Ballotpedia’s flexible environment during new employee training. Compensation The starting pay range for the Communications Associate, Email Marketing & Newsletter Publishing, is $45,000-$50,000, commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, Ballotpedia offers an annual benefits stipend equivalent to $8,000 that is paid out in equal increments in each paycheck once an employee becomes benefits eligible. The stipend may be used to pay for a full benefits package, including health, vision, and dental insurance; retirement accounts; and more. Summer 2026 Volunteer Fellowship Program (Remote)

Ballotpedia, the Encyclopedia of American Politics, is recruiting individuals who are passionate about expanding access to fact-based political information to join the Summer 2026 cohort of our Ballotpedia Fellows Program. As a trusted, nonpartisan online resource, we provide voters and readers with reliable information on elections, governance, and public policy. As a Ballotpedia Fellow, you will help expand our data-driven analysis of American politics. The Summer 2026 program will focus on conducting in-depth research on local candidates from across the country who will appear on the ballot in the 2026 midterm elections. The Summer 2026 Ballotpedia Fellows Program will run from Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, July 24, 2026. Fellows are asked to contribute 5-10 hours per week, completed on a flexible and independent schedule to accommodate school, extracurricular activities, or other commitments. Ballotpedia can provide documentation for community service hours, course credit, or other verification upon request (court-mandated hours cannot be counted). Fellows will need access to a computer or laptop and a reliable internet connection. Requirements - You are interested in politics and passionate about Ballotpedia’s mission to provide unbiased, factual information to voters. - You are a strong self-starter who thrives in an independent, remote environment. - You are curious about data and enjoy learning, even if you are new to data science. - You enjoy research, and discovering new information excites you. - Most importantly, you believe that every voter deserves access to reliable information at all levels of government. Available Projects Fellows may work on a variety of projects, including: Local Candidate Research: Ballotpedia aims to cover every election in the country. As a Fellow, you will help build more complete local candidate profiles using the same research standards as full-time staff. Your work ensures that millions of voters have access to detailed information about the local candidates on their ballot. This includes gathering critical data points such as candidate endorsements, campaign themes, contact information, social media profiles and campaign websites. Quality Assurance: Ballotpedia takes our commitment to quality and accuracy very seriously. Fellows help verify and validate candidate information entered by other volunteers. Some fellows will have the opportunity to review spreadsheets with candidate data to ensure data points are accurate and up-to-date. Local Expansion Staff Researcher (Remote)

The Position Ballotpedia is seeking to hire a full-time, 100% remote Local Expansion Staff Researcher. Reporting to the Local Expansion Managing Editor, the Staff Researcher will conduct research and outreach to gather official election documents and information needed to comprehensively cover local elections, all the way down to the smallest cities and school districts. The researcher will ingest this data into Ballotpedia’s database to support accurate election and candidate coverage, assist in managing and auditing candidate research workflows, and monitor changes in election calendars to ensure Ballotpedia reflects the most up-to-date information. As a Local Expansion Staff Researcher, you will build a strong understanding of how local elections are documented and communicated by jurisdictions of all sizes. You will learn to identify and interpret official election materials, extract relevant information, and contribute to improving the scope and quality of Ballotpedia’s local election and candidate coverage. This is a great position for a skilled researcher who is passionate about the opportunity to help expand fact-based, neutral election coverage in the United States for American voters, especially at the local level. Responsibilities As a Local Expansion Staff Researcher, you will: Research reliable election information sources and conduct outreach to gather official election documents for local contests. Process and ingest election and candidate data into Ballotpedia’s database, using both automated tools and manual review. Monitor changes to election schedules and documentation to ensure Ballotpedia reflects up-to-date information for upcoming local elections. Building knowledge of state and local election practices across assigned jurisdictions to support accurate interpretation of election materials. Participate in other election activities supporting Ballotpedia’s elections coverage, including: Researching election laws and other relevant electoral topics as needed. Identifying opportunities and implementing workflows to add to the depth and quality of Ballotpedia’s local election coverage. Improving access to Ballotpedia’s local election coverage on-site. Qualifications and Characteristics Compensation The starting pay range for the Local Expansion Staff Researcher is $42,500-$44,000/year, commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, Ballotpedia offers an annual benefits stipend equivalent to $8,000 that is paid out in equal increments in each paycheck once an employee becomes benefits eligible.
