Role Description Peraton is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals on our Department of State (DOS) Bureau of Diplomatic Technology (DT) Consular Affairs Enterprise Infrastructure Operations (CAEIO) program. CAEIO provides IT Operations and Maintenance to modernize the legacy networks, applications, and databases supporting consular applications and services globally. The DBA will implement and optimize the computerized database systems that support CA’s ability to function daily and, therefore, enable its mission. Core Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, approximately 8:00 AM ET - 4:00 PM ET (flexible) Location: This position is fully remote; however, candidates must reside in the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area (DMV) to accommodate occasional onsite meetings, training, or customer support activities at the Washington, DC, customer location or the Peraton office in Sterling, VA. The number of days the DBA works on-site in Washington, DC, or Sterling, VA, is subject to change based on government/program requirements (for example, surge support might require the individual to be in the office five days per week). - Implement and maintain smooth operation and physical design of databases. - Conduct performance tuning of indexes and databases. - Review database designs and integration of systems; provide backup recovery; and recommend enhancements. - Maintain security and integrity controls. - Manage day-to-day enterprise security hygiene, rapidly executing remediations for high-severity CVEs and actively exploited KEVs to protect core systems and applications. - Formulate policies, procedures, and standards related to database management, and monitor transaction activity and utilization. - Develop stored procedures and triggers. - Administer a variety of database systems, such as Oracle RDBMS, MS SQL Server, Postgres DB, and other Database Management Systems (DBMS). - Develop and enforce database administration and user standards and procedures; audit, modify, and amend data in systems using SQL commands. - Oversee the scheduling of database projects, database and transaction log backups, notifications, and database replication between multiple SQL servers and remote sites. - Help database designers/information system analysts develop and create SQL and Web-based databases and database systems. - Review technical designs, reports, documentation, and other materials produced by staff. - Create and maintain high-level reporting systems using products, such as Oracle OEM BI reports; research and implement new database and online technology. - Apply solid DBA skills to Oracle RAC and Data Guard installation, configuration, and troubleshooting production issues. - Apply advanced methods, theories, and research techniques to investigate and resolve complex system requirements and issues. Qualifications - Bachelors degree and 12 years of experience or a Masters degree and 10 years of experience or an Associates degree and 14 years of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 16 years of experience. - U.S. citizenship and minimum active SECRET clearance with the ability to obtain a TOP SECRET clearance. - Hands-on experience with full-life cycle implementation of Oracle 19c RDBMS and 19c/21c hub Oracle GoldenGate for production environments. - Experience upgrading Oracle RDBMS from 11g to 19c as well as the Transparent Data Encryption. - Experience writing custom monitoring reports for 12c OEM. - Strong communication skills to communicate systems proposals to management and customers and provide systems diagnoses and resolution for current systems. - Strong organization skills to prioritize work, balance, and lead complex projects. - Leadership skills to guide and mentor less experienced team members. - At least 7 years’ experience as an Oracle DBA or Oracle-related area, including at least 5 years’ experience as an Oracle 11g or 12c DBA applying knowledge of RAC, ASM, GoldenGate, Data Guard, RMAN, Patching, AND/OR Security. - Experience writing custom monitoring reports for 12c OEM. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with Oracle RDBMS upgrade from 11g/12c to 19c and Containerization. - Experience working with Oracle Cloud Computing (private or public). - Experiences with an Oracle Engineered System, such as Exadata and Sun Super Cluster. - Experience as an operational DB Ops lead. Benefits - Target Salary Range: $135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. - Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. • Support administration and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases hosted on AWS RDS and Azure PostgreSQL. • Monitor database health, performance, replication, storage, and availability. • Assist with database provisioning, upgrades, patching, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery activities. • Troubleshoot database issues including slow queries, blocking, deadlocks, replication lag, and connectivity problems. • Support SQL performance tuning and collaborate with application teams on optimization efforts. • Manage database security, users, roles, and access controls. • Assist in automating routine DBA tasks using Bash or Python scripting. • Work with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus. • Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and standard procedures.

Role Description The Digital Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Database Administrator to support the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Office of Information & Technology (OIT). In this contract, Leidos assists with the underlying infrastructure, tools, and operational services used to build, deploy, secure, and run VA health applications. The Database Administrator will play a key role in designing, implementing, and managing enterprise database environments that deliver high performance, availability, security, and scalability. This position provides technical expertise across AWS database platforms, including RDS, DocumentDB, and MongoDB, while supporting database optimization, backup and recovery, replication, high-availability architectures, and disaster recovery solutions. Working closely with cross-functional technical teams, the Database Administrator helps ensure reliable, resilient, and compliant database operations that support critical healthcare technology initiatives. Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. - Minimum of 5 years of experience administering production databases in AWS environments (e.g., RDS, DocumentDB, ElastiCache); candidates without a degree must have at least 9 years of relevant experience. - Experience reviewing database performance trends and identifying opportunities for improvement. - Experience supporting: - AWS RDS - DocumentDB - MongoDB - Database replication - Backup and recovery operations - Storage optimization - Snapshot management - High-availability database environments - Experience designing and maintaining backup/snapshot schedules and retention policies for production databases. - Experience supporting disaster recovery procedures with defined Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) targets. - Experience monitoring database capacity and performance to prevent failures from storage exhaustion or backup interruptions. - Experience supporting highly available production database environments with strict uptime/incident-free availability targets. - The ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance. - The ability to travel, as needed, to customer sites. - Must have US Citizenship. Requirements - Experience with multi-region database replication strategies and data consistency models. - Experience across both relational and NoSQL platforms (e.g., MongoDB, DocumentDB) alongside streaming/analytics services (e.g., Kinesis, MSK, Athena). - Experience evaluating cross-region data transfer costs and storage cost tradeoffs for replicated data. - Familiarity with VA or other federal compliance requirements affecting data storage and recovery. - Experience supporting or contributing to software version posture reporting for database platforms.
