Job Description
Assistant Financial Controller
DataCamp
Role Description We are searching for an exceptional Assistant Controller / Senior Manager of Accounting to join our Accounting team. This is a senior, high-ownership position that serves as the second CPA in the function and a direct operational partner to the VP, Finance Operations & Global Controller. DataCamp operates across six international subsidiaries — US, UK, Belgium, Singapore, UAE, and an upcoming Portugal entity — with consolidated audited financial statements prepared under US GAAP and a multi-currency consolidation spanning six functional currencies. Our accounting stack includes NetSuite OneWorld, Zuora, Salesforce/CPQX, Ramp, Tipalti, and Avalara. The business is actively expanding its usage-based pricing model and investing heavily in AI-enabled finance operations. This role owns the most technically demanding workstreams in the accounting function: - Consolidated financial statement preparation and audit management - US and foreign tax compliance (income and sales tax nexus, indirect taxes, state and local taxes (SALT)) - Foreign subsidiary oversight - Technical accounting research - Month-end close ownership of key accounting areas such as ASC 842 – lease accounting, intercompany reconciliation, and intercompany eliminations You will be required to coordinate closely with our external auditors (Deloitte US) and US tax advisors (Withum). Qualifications - Minimum 5+ years in a senior accounting role at a US-based SaaS or technology growth-stage startup. Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Manager, Accounting Manager title preferred. Total experience 8+ years. - Minimum 2–3 years at a Big 4 or large regional firm (audit practice), with direct exposure to US GAAP financial statement audits of multi-entity companies. - Required CPA License. Active US CPA license strongly preferred; international equivalent (ACA, CA, ACCA) considered. - Expert-level command of ASC 606, 740, 842, 830, 350-40, and 805. Comfortable writing and defending technical memos independently. - Direct experience preparing or owning consolidated audited financial statements for a multi-entity company with multiple functional currencies. Consolidation judgment — not just running reports. - Hands-on experience with ASC 740 income tax provisions and SALT nexus analysis. Comfortable serving as the internal owner of the tax compliance workstream alongside outside advisors. - Working knowledge of foreign subsidiary accounting, intercompany eliminations, and coordination with local statutory/tax advisors in at least one non-US jurisdiction. VAT/GST familiarity is a plus. - Demonstrated, hands-on use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or equivalent) to automate accounting workflows. - Strong NetSuite experience preferred; NetSuite OneWorld / multi-entity configuration preferred. Zuora, Ramp, Tipalti, or Avalara experience is a plus. - Operates independently; owns outcomes rather than tasks. Comfortable in a lean, fast-moving team where the answer isn’t always obvious. Requirements - Own the preparation and review of consolidated audited financial statements under US GAAP across six subsidiaries with multiple functional currencies (USD, GBP, EUR, SGD, AED). - Serve as the primary internal liaison with Deloitte US for the annual consolidated audit and interim review procedures; own PBC delivery, audit support packages, and open item resolution. - Prepare and review technical accounting memos for complex or non-routine transactions (revenue recognition, lease modifications, capitalized software, equity, etc.). - Manage and review the annual income tax provision under ASC 740 in coordination with Withum; own the provision workpapers, deferred tax schedules, and tax footnote disclosure. - Oversee sales and use and indirect tax compliance: nexus analysis, state registrations, VDA assessments, Avalara configuration, and SALT exposure management. - Coordinate with Withum (US tax provider) on federal and state income tax return preparation. - Own accounting oversight and management of local statutory audits for all foreign subsidiaries: UK, Belgium, Singapore, UAE (Optima), and Portugal (launch H2 2026 / H1 2027). - Coordinate with local statutory accounting and tax firms across each jurisdiction; review local deliverables for accuracy and completeness. - Manage NetSuite OneWorld consolidation, intercompany settlement, and foreign sub month-end close procedures. - Lead the internal build-out of the Portugal entity accounting infrastructure in coordination with the engaged Portuguese firm. - Serve as a senior reviewer across the consolidated close; individual contributor to own a subset of high-complexity close procedures including stock-based compensation expense, lease accounting under ASC 842, payroll accounting and intercompany consolidation entries. - Drive close timeliness and quality; partner with the Accounting Manager to hit a ≤7 business day close cycle. - Review journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by the accounting team; coach on technical issues and escalate judgment calls. - Actively leverage AI tools — including Claude, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork or similar — to identify and implement automation opportunities across the accounting close cycle; serve as a hands-on practitioner, not just a sponsor. Benefits - Exciting challenges: Face new technical challenges daily, keeping your work engaging and rewarding. - Competitive compensation: We offer a competitive salary with attractive benefits. - Flexibility: Benefit from flexible working hours because the future is flexible! - Continuous learning: Access a yearly learning budget for conferences & training to support your professional growth. - Global retreats: Participate in international company retreats, fostering a global team spirit. - Equipment: Yearly refreshment of your IT Equipment budget for your home working setup. - Amazing team: Collaborate with a truly exceptional team—seriously, we’re awesome!
