Job Description
Okta Engineer
The PMO Squad
Role Description We're looking for a hands-on Okta Engineer to support identity and access management for an established cybersecurity technology company's growing IT environment. This is a backfill for a long-tenured contractor rolling off the team, and the ideal candidate will step in with minimal ramp-up, taking ownership of Okta configuration, integrations, and troubleshooting from day one. - Automate and manage user onboarding, offboarding, provisioning, and group assignments across systems - Configure and enforce Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and adaptive access policies to secure enterprise data - Integrate enterprise applications using SAML, OAuth, and OIDC, and sync Okta with directory services and source-of-truth systems (e.g., Workday) - Resolve authentication failures, identity-related access issues, token errors, and system connectivity glitches - Build streamlined workflows using Okta Workflows and REST APIs to automate routine IAM processes - Document configuration decisions and changes clearly, so others can understand the "how" and "why" without direct hand-holding Qualifications - 3+ years of hands-on Okta administration/engineering experience - Demonstrated experience with SSO, MFA, and adaptive access policy configuration - Experience integrating applications via SAML, OAuth, and OIDC - Ability to work independently and clearly document technical decisions and changes - Based in the United States (no international candidates) Nice-to-Have Qualifications - Experience with Google Workspace environments - Experience supporting an Active Directory-to-cloud-identity migration - Familiarity with Slack, GitHub, and Atlassian tools (Confluence, Jira) - East Coast time zone alignment Tools & Environment - Okta - Google Workspace - Slack - GitHub - Atlassian (Confluence, Jira) - REST APIs - Okta Workflows Ideal Candidate Profile You're technically confident and self-sufficient - you've configured Okta policies before and can explain the reasoning behind them without someone walking you through it. You're comfortable owning your work independently, whether that means staying heads-down on technical execution or speaking directly with stakeholders when needed. Communication style is flexible; technical depth and follow-through are what matter most.
